So, I have bumped up my workout routine in the last couple weeks and it made me start my period again. I had just finished about 2 and a half weeks ago and middle of last week it started again and is still going strong. Is this something that is known to happen. I haven't called my doctor yet...was just in to see her 2 weeks ago and all was normal down there. So, I'm just curious if this is something that should pass or if I should worry. There's no possibility that I was or am pregnant, and I've heard of period issues due to lots of exercise. And advice??

Thanks,

Exercise can effect your cycle. I wouldn't say its a major problem but I personally would go to the doc just to make sure you are throwing your body for too much of a shock. She could also probably prescribe you a birthcontrol to help regulate it! Good luck!

See...I am already on birth control that has made my period regular for the last like 7 years. And when I was a swimmer in highschool, I didn't have my period for a long time, then it was irregular, then became regular after starting birth control. Since then, no problems...but wasn't very active until the past few months and then since New Years, I really bumped up my workouts. So, do you think I should wait a few more weeks or maybe a few months and see if it goes back to normal?

It is probably normal. You could give it a few weeks for your body to adjust.

You can always call and talk to the On-Call nurse with your concerns that way you don't have to make an appointment.

I am by no means a medical professional so please don't take my advice for anything more than my opinon, lol but I think that no one knows your body better than you and given your history of irregularity you are the best judge of what you should do! But yes I would say you should definitly get it checked if it continues for much longer! I totally agree with puravidame call the nurse hot line and see what they have to say!
  • My cycle has definitely been affected too, but not so much - usually it's 28 days, like clockwork, but the past couple of months (since I've been exercising a lot more) it's been much shorter, eg I got mine today, only 21 days after my last :grumble: I hope it gets back to normal soon!

Major changes in your life can affect your period quite a bit. Are you stressing out about trying to lose weight and making sure you are exercising enough? You may not even realize it.
I lived in Africa for 3 years and didn't have a period for the first 6 months. Of course I freaked out but I was told that it was perfectly normal and happens a lot when you make such a large change in your life.
I don't know anything about having it too much, but the same may apply. I would recommend seeing a doctor soon just to make sure and take your mind off of it.

Hey...thanks you guys! You are all seriously SOOOOO helpful and I truly appreciate it more than I will probably ever be able to express! Thanks! I will wait at least a few weeks and see how things go. If this is something that persists or doesn't seem to be going back to normal, then I will call my doctor. I very possibly may be stressing over trying to lose weight without realizing since I'm going to Texas and Mexico with my husband and a group of friends in only 7 weeks. So, this may be contributing to the hormore change! Thanks for all your helpful advice!!

I had that happen!! THank heavens it's not just me....so weird. Had expected this week to be "hell week" with PMS, but suddenly got my cycle last Saturday, no cramps (until a couple of days in), no PMS that I could tell, no tenderness in the, erm, upper body, so to speak....

Easiest cycle I've had since I started too many years ago, though.

My sister-in-law said hers came a week early, too. I guess we're a bit "aligned" - not sure who set off who. But my workouts, too, have been a lot more intense than before so I guess that happens.

When I was dancing, at a much younger age, I rarely got my cycle due to being underweight. So I guess it's bound to happen the other way at my age now... ?
  • omg-i feel so much better!! I just got mine-21 days after last month-it does usually back up 1 week every month-but this seemed real early!!!
