Getting rid of the wedding dress.

Weird day for me as I have retreived my wedding dress from the loft, I'm trying to sort the final details of my divorce and I am finally ready to see it go, it was very weird because my mum had my wedding shoes at her house and she mentioned they were going musty and could she dispose of them. I find thats a sign that I no longer need to keep it any longer.
I'm going to donate it to the Cancer Research shop as the day before my ex stuffed up big time my dad found out he had Prostate Cancer.

I have mine stuffed under my bed. I don't know what to do with it!!!

It cost $1000 back in the day. I might donate it one day or tear it up.. haven't decided.

    That is awesome!

I am actually purchasing my wedding dress in the next couple of months. For cheap, of course. I'm super excited!

I think women should rent wedding dresses, just like men rent their tuxedos. What are women saving them for?

Partly sentiment, and partly in the hope that their daughter will eventually wear it.

I still have mine (and my Mums!). I'm thinking of using mine in a patchwork as its a Laura Ashley cotton dress. My Mums I'll never part with.
    See, sentiment.

I sold mine through a consignment shop right after the wedding - and while it was still in style. I don't want kids, so I'm not going to store it in hopes that someone else would want to wear it some day (and let's face it...most brides want their OWN dress, not someone else's).

Anyway, it was far too beautiful to live out its existence stored away in a closet somewhere...an amazing dress deserves to dance and make another bride feel beautiful and happy on her big day!

Yep. I already knew that. Just wanted to verify and self-preservation instincts prevented me from making this inquiry to my wife.

My mom did this, and then gave birth to 5 boys. Oops.

What a great idea! Out of sorrow can come joy!

I am guilty of this. It's sitting in a box at my dad's. It was $1500, and I worked my a@@ off for it! I have gotten rid of all it except the dress, the tiara, and a few pics (that I gave to the kids).
It is my hope that one of the girls will want it. If not, I will let it go.

Wow, what an amazing way to look at it! I will remember this post when my dress' day comes. Like you said, Although I hope they 'will', I don't think my daughters will likely want it. They are all taller and slimmer then me (or well on their way I mean), and it would have to be altered to a short sleeve as the current sleeves are uneven.

    Thank you for posting this!

I've been married for 9 years. Last year I asked my husband if he was okay with me donating my dress to Goodwill. I wasn't going to be needing it anymore and I'm not the sentimental type, so I had no particular attachment to it. I was happy to let it go onto someone else who could put it to use.

Glad it helped. My niece is built a lot like me and she's a teenager, so I did consider keeping it for her, but the very thought of it sitting around for years in a closet just made me sad. Styles change and most girls want something that reflects their personality at the time of their marriage, so its a crap-shoot to save it. Don't get me wrong.. I was a little sad to see it go, but that day wasn't just about the dress...and I can look at the hundreds of pictures (and one great husband) anytime I want to relive it.

Hmmm, I wonder where mine is?

When I left my "y" (yes, he's my WHY, not my x   ), I left a lot of stuff behind. I didn't want to go back into that house of hell (he's a hoarder) and try to find it...................last time I saw it, it was in an upstairs closet.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
