Doing good with FOOD now, but not consistent with the EXERCI

I'm revved up and motivated with changing my food habits. I've been doing pretty good so far since the 1st. However, I feel some sort of way with the exercise thing.
Don't get me wrong, I do exercise, but its not a daily or consistent thing at all.
I don't have a gym membership... I stay at home, and work at home 3 days, in the office 2 days. I have a 1 year old and a 4 year old that are VERY attention hungry. I feel like I don't spend enough time with the kids when I do some home workouts.. sometimes I pop in a video, but hardly finish it. I go to a gym maybe once a week and workout, and I do good there. I also have an elliptical at home, that I dont really get on. I' just not motivated. Working out at home sucks! And I can't really pay for a membership right now.

Girl I know what you mean!
I have a 5 month old & a 5 year old. My husband is spoiled so he expects off tops for me to have a hot dinner going. He will help with homeowrk for my 5 y/o but not consistently.
So I just decided to do my hardcore workout at 4:45AM (no later than 5:10) and do anything else in the evening that I don't mind being interrupted in. Now don't get me wrong I could never see myself getting up this early to exercise, but you know what - Mama gotta get in shape!
I just tell myself, it's not gonna be easy til I get to my goal weight, but maintanence will be a littler better.0 -
My DS has always been very demanding of my attention, especially when I am working out. The only way to get a good workout in is to do it before he is up or after he is in bed. So I am up at 5:30 a.m. to exercise, and often do another at 9:00 p.m. Any time I workout while he is up (and I still do sometimes) he wants my attention, and it can be very aggravating.

Oh do I ever hear you! I have 3 girls (2, 4.5, 7.5) and run a daycare with 4 other kids. Same as someone else said, I get dinner ready and on the table each night, take care of the kids (homework, cleaning up, bath, bedtime)....by the end of the day I'm beat and don't feel like doing anything but sitting on my butt. I need to get my butt in gear in the morning, get up earlier (which would mean getting my butt in bed earlier too) and do a workout then! Not only will it be out of the way but it's the best for you! Keeps your metabolism in high gear all day, boosts your mood....it's just really good! Now where's the motivation to do so?! LOL0

I'm at this point too - I've finally gotten the food part down and am doing really well on a consistent basis. At the beginning, I was exercising too, and that kind of fell on the wayside, but I was justifying it in my mind because I was under calorie count everyday.
I really think I need to start shooting to go to bed early, get up early in the morning, get in a quick 30-minute workout every day when I don't have the kiddo hasseling me or dinner to make, shower, then do my normal morning routine.0 -
Do your kids nap? Before my kids started school I'd put them down for their naps, go right down to the treadmill and watch some mindless TV. I could normally get a quick shower in before they were up again.0

I agree.. this is the one time I can get up and get my workout and have some alone time. Now my kids are 9 and 16 so they don't need me so much other than to taxi them here or there. But definitely 4:30am is my gym time.0 -
Know how you feel, I have 5. Staying at home is the hardest job plus you work at home too? I go to school to finish my degree and it's soooo hard to get my work done. In my personal opinion, you should hire a babysitter or daycare at least 3x's a week and go to the gym. Take care of yourself and then everthing should start falling in place. I think you'll be alot happier and be able to get to your goals if you take some time for yourself. If you don't have the money for a sitter reach out and ask for help from friends and family. I used to feel guilty about it, but I know its for the best. Best wishes.0

Snap! I have a 1yr old and 3 year old. The best way to get the exercise in for me is to take them both out on long walks,
or doing my dvd workouts late at night. Pain in the bum but at least I'm doing them.0 -
You sound SO much like me a year ago! That said, I personally found it so helpful to get a handle on food before figuring out how to fit in consistent exercise. Once I was able to eat well and stay close to my calorie goal, having it feel like second nature, I signed up for a 5k race and started running (we'll call it running) 3 times a week to get ready for it. It really helped me to have that goal in mind. Please feel free to add me if you'd like.
I know it can be hard to do with kids around, but you have to do it for yourself. It sets an amazing example. Here are a few of my favorite things since I started getting healthier. I only have one son who is 5, but here are some of his results....
1. He now chooses things like Kashi cereal over Count Chocula
2. He ran a 1 mile fun run in under 14 minutes because he wanted to run like mommy.
3. He randomly does wacky pushups off the side of the couch and says "is this exercise?"
They are little sponges!0 -
It is extremely hard balancing work, children and exercise. I guess you need to look at your routine and see if there is any time in there to fit something in. Maybe going for a walk with the kids? or a dvd workout while they are napping during the day or sleeping at night. Personally, I get up early and do at least 30 minutes every week day before the kids are up, usually about 6am.. Occasionally I get a chance during the afternoon for a little exercise but I find Im out of energy then.0

Wow.. I didn't know there were so many of you out there like me!!! ahhaahah!!!
sometimes you feel like you're in your own little bubble, you know!
this is encouragement.
well, the baby naps but not the 4 year old...
i think i'll try to get on the elliptical for at least 30 minutes when he naps and i'll give the 4 year old some paper and paints or her leapster..... she better handle chilling out on her own w/o interrupting mommy for at least that long!!!
sheesh!!!!!
LOVE YOU MOMMAS!!! WE GOT THE HARDEST FRIGGIN JOB ON THE PLANET!!!!0
