Parents and feeding your kids healthy

I'm pretty far off from having kids, but I work at a place that rhymes with Small*Fart and I hate to see parents walking around with small children, their carts loaded up with JUNK (soda, chips, candy, frozen dinners) and not a single fresh food item in sight. I feel bad for the kids because it is setting them up for disaster later in life if that's all they've ever know--end rant.

Now my question: for parents who are leading an active, healthy lifestyle, did you raise your children on the same food you eat?
Have you ever given them fastfood or boxed foods typically given to children (mac and cheese, corndogs...)?
Do you let them drink soda occasionally or is it banned completely from your house?
Do you educate your children early on about why you eat the foods you do or don't eat?

I'm a mum of 3 aged 6,3 and 14months and yes the older ones have had the occasional maccy ds and quick meal. But they also eat healthy food too. My oldest will choose an apple over a chocolate bar so we must be doing something ok. As for fizzy drinks my partner and I don't drink them so they only really have access to orange squash.

As for what people put in their trolleys we have very little fresh food except for fruit as we are on a tight budget so all of our veg and meat tends to be frozen so I'm sure people might think we aren't very healthy at a.quick glance either.
