Cutting calories or sugar?

If I'm staying within my daily calorie intake, but my sugar intake is quite a bit over, will I still lose weight?
The sugars are mostly from fruit and a cup of tea so it's not like I've eaten a tub of ice cream. But I've heard that as well as controlling calories you also have to control your sugar intake otherwise you won't lose weight. Can anyone clarify this for me?

sugar is bad. Its so high in energy that your body will burn this off first as its already ready to go. and the rest of your food it stores as fat.
I myself have a little bit of a sweet tooth, but I have halved my sugar intake by making my own Ice Cream, cakes, treats, etc, with "SilverSpoon: Half Spoon" sugar. or "Simply Sweet Sweetener"**
Here is a link to SilverSpoon, my first choice -> http://www.silverspoon.co.uk/home/products/low-calorie-sugars-and-sweeteners/half-spoon-granulated-sugar
** This Contains ASPARTAME, just in case your one of these people worried about all the negative hype. Personally I don't think its that bad when controlled, i've been using it for years, and I haven't gone mad, got cancer or lost my testicles0 -
Watch the type of sugars you take in. I was really concerned about my intake of sugar as well (I eat a lot of apples and bananas), I was always over. However, I have not seen any negative affects of it and have lost weight through keeping my net calories in line and exercising.
I did start subbing out an apple with carrots as a snack.0 -
My sugar is almost double on most days.
I keep my calorie deficit, hit my macros, and burn around 800-1000 cals 6 days a week. Ive never felt better, stronger, fitter!0 -
There is also Honey.
Honey is a good sugar substitute. natural, virtually NO fat, and its a detoxing agent.0 -
If the majority of your sugar is coming from fruit then don't worry about it.0

Sugar is bad, no matter where it comes from. Yes from fruits is better than the junk we used to eat (and still eat sometimes!) but in general it's, as it has been said, what your body burns first. Many have tried to lose weight by eating lots of vegetables and fruits, and the fruit part played tricks on them.0

If the majority of your sugar comes from natural, whole foods (fruit, vegetables, milk, etc.) you'll be fine. It's the added or "refined" sugars found in all packaged & processed foods, candy, desserts, etc. that will hinder your weight loss. As long as you stay within your daily calorie limit, you'll be fine.0
