Going over the calorie goal crazy

So the past couple of days had been quite stressful around my place with sick kiddos and a bunch of other things. I've noticed that when I am just kind of paying attention to my calorie goal and I go over it I easily say forget it and just go crazy. I could have just stopped and done the 100 calories over and just stayed on track the rest of the time, but I don't do that. Any one else do this? And advice? :flowerforyou:

I do that sometimes too. Unfortunately, I have no advice for either of us, other than 'just stop doing it'. Not very helpful, huh? Sorry
  • ahhh the all or nothing thinking. I struggle with that....it just comes with practice and remind yourself that 100 or even 200 calories over your goal is still UNDER maintenance!

I still fight with this once I go over by 400 calories which puts me at maintenance...then I just order a pizza with my bf and we pig out in front of the tv....followed by some ben & jerry's SMH.

This is something I struggled with. I find that if *kitten* is really hitting the fan in my life, sometimes for a few days I need to focus on just eating maintenance calories rather than try to cut at all. Restricting your calories to a particular deficit might feel like one more restriction/stressor in your life, and you may wind up saying "screw it" and overeating to break the self-imposed rule. If you eat maintenance, sure, it will put your weight loss on hold for a few days -- but, of course, binge eating after TRYING to restrict may even put you at a surplus.

Good luck!! It is so tough to beat. I would say try reading the book 'Intuitive Eating' for some help with the mental stuff... I'm also currently reading Geneen Roth's 'The End of Emotional Eating' to give myself a mental tune-up on some issues.

    I do this. >.<
As an example, I was doing fine today until I made cookies with the fam – I ate two – that threw off my planned meals for the day – and so I thought, "f#@! it" and I ended up eating eight of them. That put me WAY over calories, even with exercise factored in.
How to stop? Well, practice makes perfect, I guess. I just keep telling myself that 100 or 200 calories over isn't going to hurt me, but 700 or 800 calories over will. Why turn a little mistake into a big one? There's no logic to it. Anyway, that usually works. It didn't today, but nobody's perfect, I suppose...
