i really have a dream to begin running. i envy all those people who can run for miles and it doesnt even phase them. i would love to get to that point. i am absolutely terrible at running... i need help getting started. if anyone could give me a running schedule for beginners to help them become a long distance runner that would be great. anyone else out there want to do it with me? that would be great also! add me as a friend if you are interested or can help comments with tips to help motivate me is also very appreciated! thanks everyone!

Coolrunning.com's C25K program. It's how I got started. I finished up back last September and haven't looked back since!0

honestly....running was the best thing that ever happened to me...i've fallen off the wagon but plan on starting up again in the spring (i can't run on treadmills). anyways - i don't have a running plan...my advice to you is to run for as long as you can and stop. don't push yourself too much or you'll hurt yourself.
my start was 10 minutes. then gradually 20, then eventually i'd be running for 45 minutes before i'd check my watch.
obviously you want to get a really good pair of shoes and i would recommend going to a runner's choice store and asking for tips there. they also have beginners running groups.0 -
Yup, C25K.
It got me off the couch this time last year and I haven't looked back. I went from "i can't run" to being "one of those people who can run for miles" and honestly no one is more surprised about it than me.
My best advice:
- get good shoes
- get a good bra (that's mostly for the ladies )
- run slow. Really slow. That's the secret to running far - take it slow and you wil build up endurance, speed will come later.
- read up about stretching and don't be afraid to slow down or stop and rest if you are injured.0 -
I totally agree with the above comments about the C25K, it's Couch to 5K, basically it's for people who are out of shape but want to get into running. I just started it this week, and honestly I think it's good because it's reasonable, it's a set schedule (I don't know about you but having a plan set for me for two months is a good thing, because I suck at setting my own plans/attempts at running), and it eases you into running. I love it, you should give it a try0

I have always been horrible at running. Managed to run a mile once in sixth grade. I've started trying to get good at running as well, starting January first I've done a mile of whatever every day, running as much as I can, walking some. It's really interesting to do. Definitely feel free to add me as a friend because I'm pretty much doing the same thing. I'd already started my thing when I saw the C25K thing so I just figured I'd keep going with it. What I do is to warm up at a low speed for a minute, walking 4mph for another two minutes, and back down to low speed for a minute and then I run intervals of one to two minutes of varying speeds and levels of incline. I have gotten so much better at it already I can't really believe it. Usually it takes me 18 minutes to finish a mile but today and yesterday I started doing it in steady 1 minute intervals (one minute fast one minute slow), and I got it done in like 16 minutes and wasn't even tired.0
