My body revolted.... and now I see a clear picture.

On Jan. 2nd, I switched to a mostly raw diet. Basically I eat raw all day, and then a sensible non raw meal at dinner. I have lost 5 pounds since then. My raw is usually smoothies made in my Vita - Mix.
So, for the last 6 days, I was away at a family function. There were usually 40 people near me, and even finding counter space to make my smoothies was hard, but I managed 1 per day. The rest of the time, I ate what everybody else was eating because it was just simpler, and I didn't want to answer questions about all the smoothies.
So, on the 1st night I was doubled over in pain in my stomach.... I didn't get sick, but the pain was there, for sure..... Anyway, even with that, I continued to eat like the rest of them..... not in quantity, but the same foods. And for 4 days I had stomach pain. So, on day 5, I switched back to eating mostly raw, but whole foods - not smoothies.... and my pain went away, and I am back to normal.
No more ham, eggs, scrapple, pasta, milk, meatballs.........
My body really seems to like all the fruits and veggies, whether they are in smoothie form or eaten whole. And with a sensible non raw meal a day, I feel like I am getting the best of both worlds.

I was in same wagon as you. 2 years ago I started the V Diet on t-nation.com. Only protein shakes so basically liquids. Bad bad choice for me. I may just have followed the instructions wrong but my stomach revolted very very hard. It took me months to get it back on track. Since then I'm cautious about any diet and I do lots of research before that.
This time only whole foods and solid and I'm good.0 -

See, now today is really good.... 2 raw smoothies.... and I have found out that I REALLY love cranberries in my smoothies. And by eating this way, I actually get a good feeling when I eat, mentally, that is...... And shortly I'll be off to the produce stand to load up, to make me really want to be back on track.0

Just to be clear, it's not that "prepared" food is bad for you necessarily - you just made a drastic change that your body had trouble adapting to. It's the same reason changing a dogs kibble from one brand to another might give them diarrhea for a couple days until their body adjusts.0

Funny.
But seriously, I would rather have scrapple than steak.... And there was 15 pounds of it at the reunion! My brother in law can't get it down there so we always bring him some.... usually 2 -3 pounds.... but with the whole family there, about 10 pound were eaten... and yes, I had 2 slices..... but am back on track 100% since arriving home.0
