I have hit a plateau and not lost weight for the last 3 weeks. Anyone with any ideas? I am exercising faithfully! I was wondering if when working out it is important to make sure you are at the correct heart rate for fat burning? Any suggestions would be welcomed.

You don't have to have a steady heart rate at exactly 85% of your max to get the best results... In fact, allowing your HR to yo-yo by changing between low intensity and high intensity activities is more effective for weight loss than working out at a steady 85%.

When I hit my plateau, I had to increase my calorie intake. I started at 1200, lost about 12 lbs, then hit a standstill. Once I increased to 1400 I started losing again. This is because I became a lot more active and my body just wasn't getting enough fuel from 1200 calories to comfortably let go of the extra fat... some days I even go over the 1400. If you're exercising faithfully and at a standstill, try both upping the intensity of your workouts (or adding interval training) and upping your calories a little bit. I'll bet you'll start to lose again in a week or two...

I have also hit a plateau. I have been working out faithfully 6 days a week and staying within my alloted calories. I have been told by some of my health enthusiast friends that I need to take four or five days off, not pig out, but give the hard core workouts and strict diet a break.

I got sick last week and was forced not to workout and I was so sick I wasn't into counting calories.
So I guess I will see if it works.
  • I hear you! Maybe try switching up your work outs? Throwing in a weekly spinning class or kickboxing class could be helpful. Not only does it keep working out fun but new activities target different muscles that could (depending on the targeted muscle) lead to more calorie burning! Also, just because you're not losing weight doesn't mean your body's not looking better. The number on the scale isn't everything... have you checked your body measurements?

Try not to get frustrated! Hang in there!:glasses:
  • I know it sounds counter intuitive but the two things that have helped me the most are upping calories OR taking a break from exercise. I am a creature of habit so I tend to exercise every day without a break taking a few days off to rest up sometimes gives me a jumpstart. Go figure?

AAACK a break from exercise!, omg, that would kill me, I'm a faithful 7-day gym rat, but I break my plateaus by uping the calories, and introducing new techniques and variables to my workouts.
