Is your goal weight above your BMI?

So my goal weight is 168lbs, that's 16lbs over my top "healthy" BMI but i've got boobs and a bum and i'm musclular - as in bodypump instructor, kilimanjaro trekking, marathon running muscluar, and I just can't imagine weighing only 140 lbs...maybe 154 but probably not any less (i'm 5'5")

Is there anyone else out there who isn't aiming to be super small - just at a stage where they're comfortable and capable of maintaining even if it doesn't put you at a size 10-12 (UK sizes)?

My goal is 165 that's a Healthy BMI for me, 9 more pounds...
  • Yes my goal weight is about 170 pounds and I am 5'5, it's not about being a certain weight, just being a size I can maintain. I don't want to be 130-140 pounds because I would have to be very strict on the food thing so I would rather be a bit heavier and have more to go on...

My goal is to be overweight. Seriously. Healthy for me is somewhere around 135...personally I am all set with that. My ultimate goal is 160.

BMI is the most out dated n unaccurate thing... (words of my PT course instructor)

My goal weight is waaay over my BMI..

my friend is 6'0 and 267lbs offseason and he is "obese" made of pure mountin of muscle..
  • My goal is 140, that's like to top of a healthy BMI for me. At 140 I am amazingly hott.... I mean my body is ripped. I can't imagine every being under 140... so yea my BMI will be 24....but I'll be healthy and beautiful =)
  • I'm so glad there are other people on here that get it. After reading a stream of posts with people idolising airbrushed model bodies, aiming to get to 130-140lbs and setting sky-high targets I was feeling a bit de-motivated and like what I was aiming for was totally wrong.

I feel better now reading these posts.

BMI is a measurement for the masses (population based tool) and doesn't always work on an individual level. You can get a better indication of your true healthy weight by measuring body fat % or using BMI in conjuction with waist to hip and/or waist to height ratios. There are many sites that can calculate this on the internet.

I am a little over my "healthy" BMI right now, but when you add wast to hip or height, I drop into the healthy range. I'd like to lose a few more, but I think I'll always want to lose a few more because the fact is I don't want to give up my eat, drink and be merry lifestyle enough to get down to my ideal weight.

I just looked it up and my weight goal is still bordering the obese amount for me but I have gotten to that weight before and I don't think I would look good much smaller than that. I have very wide shoulders and a very large chest. My first goal is to get below 200 but my final goal is around 155-160 but according to the BMI index 164 is my cut off for obese. I live in New England and I couldn't imagine not having a little meat on my bones.
