help a planker!!! :0)

i was at my ab's blast class on monday and we did lower planks on our forearms and out of the 20-25 in the class it ended up being between me and a guy to hold it the longest we both went down after about 3 mins he held it for a few seconds longer :grumble: so now ive set myself a challenge that i must be able to hold it for 5 mins so i can beat him nxt week. I have been doing it at home and can only get to just over 1 min, i think this is because i have no competition at home, i live alone so i cannot compete against anyone, all my friends wouldnt even b able to do a plank so i cant ask anyone. But my question is, is there any other exercises i can do to make me hold a plank longer? i do crunches most days. I REALLY dont want to be beaten nxt week! :bigsmile:

Hanging leg raises and roll outs will make you stronger, so that holding a plank will be easier, but not in a week.
Another option would be to do the more difficult plank with your feet elevated, once again making the normal plank easier by comparison0 -
ooh ill try the elevated leg planks tomorrow thanks, i dont have a bar to do the hanging leg raises, thanx 4 the advice :bigsmile:0

Also arms on the ball... Or elevated feet arms on the ball.. BUT the next step up from the regular plank is usually lifting one leg.. Then when you get that down it's one are then one arm and opposite leg. :-) good luck!!0
