After all the years (I am now 58) of struggling with my weight I have finally found something that works! MFP works it bl**** works! I had that misinformation in my head about needing to eat under 1000 cals a day to lose weight and so for so many heartbreaking years I would lose and regain lose and regain, up to a whopping 115Kg (253lbs). I had weight oss surgery 3 years ago and lost 25Kg (55lb) only to start regaining when I could eat sufficient food. My body strongly objects to being starved it seems and takes any and every opportunity to store fat when presented with excess calories.
So I stumbled upon MFP when I was at my lowest - regaining weight quickly and having no-one believe how little I was eating (except on the bag of chippy days) I am not ashamed to say I had self destructive thoughts (only thoughts I would not act out on them) - but I was pretty low. I wanted to prove how little I was eating and looked around for a calorie tracking app and after rejecting a couple found MFP. I am a person who reads FAQs and read some articles about how this site should be used. So I thought 'why not - can't be any worse than anything else'. Also I had read that I may gain weight while my metabolism reset so I was prepared for that.
I am now eating 1430 plus my exercise cals (and what greater incentive to exercise!!!) and do not feel starving. I can't believe how much I am eating now - and I AM LOSING WEIGHT (happy dance). I now have hope where there was none before. The acid test was at the weekend taking my grandson to the beach - I had an icecream. Was within my calories for the day, and in the past if I had had an ice cream I would have put on half a Kilo overnight (NOT water weight either) but there was no gain. My metabolism seems to have reset. Wow. I read a lot of threads here with ppl arguing about 'starvation mode'. My take on it is that you do lose weight undereating but gain back immediately you eat more (like an icecream). This is all anecdotal and I don't really care about the arguments - I just know this is working and nothing has worked like this before. Not even weight loss surgery.
