love any opinions on when I burn extra calories exercising, should I be eating all of them everyday? I do 30-50 mins depending what's going on that day of exercise which sometimes adds 400+ calories to my daily intake... won't I lose faster if I just eat the calories recommended before the exercise? curious to hear any and all opinions - thanks in advance :)

  • :flowerforyou: I personally do not unless I am starving. I just recently lost, so I'm thinking, what is the point of eating them back if you have so much to loose? (well I do anyway) I think as long as your not starving, drink water it fills you up more than you think!!

    Good luck!

There are lots of different opinions on here but mine is, if you are hungry, eat.

I know on my super work out days when I burn a lot of calories, I am pretty much starving all day. So I choose to eat mine with in reason and on reasonable, very nutritious foods.

    Good luck on your journey.

MFP builds in your caloric deficit to lose weight when you set up you profile. mine is set to lose 1 lb. a week which MFP takes into account and subtracts 500 calories a day to reach that 3500 calories = 1 lb. loss at the end of each week. Yes you will lose weight faster with a bigger deficit for awhile but eventually you will stall out and may even cause your body to start using lean muscle for a source of calories if your deficit is running to big for to long and when that happens your metabolism will slow and a cycle of plateaus and whatnot will occur... Losing faster isn't always better, slow and steady will always win the race when it comes to weightloss. I eat back my exercise calories everyday...... Good luck......

    Here's my 2¢'s worth...

If you are on 1200kc (thanks to MFPs somewhat daft calculations) then I would certainly eat back about 50% of your exercise calories (unless they are BMR adjusted in which case you might be able to go up to 75%)

By BMR adjusted I mean find out what your BMR is by wearing your HRM for an hour while relaxing ( I measured my hour while sitting on a train, dozing, so that should give me a pretty accurate measure with nothing to elevate my heart rate). I burn 108kc just sitting for an hour, so if I then burn 400kc walking for an hour, I know that 108 of those 400 Calories are BMR calories I'd have used anyhow. So realistically I've only burnt 292 Calories from exercise and I know I have these in the bank.

I may use them on the same day... perhaps if I think I deserve a treat... or I may use them at the weekend, when I know I'll be in the pub with my friends enjoying a few drinkies :drinker:

But remember... you've gotta put fuel into the engine to get it to work and it cannot run on fumes. You'll not do yourself any favours if you don't feed your body with the nutrients it needs.

LOL! That is funny. I joined when my husband showed me the app on my phone and we started shooting the bar code reader for fun.

I have been on a journey of complete over all heath, mind, body and spirit for 4 and a half years. Over that period of time I have lost close to 40 lbs and 12% body fat. I have studied a great deal about nutrition as well as worked with nutritionists and personal trainers to ensure a healthier life style for me.

So to assume that someone just now is getting healthy if they are new to the site is not a good assumption, maybe they just discovered the app?

never heard of the site til a few weeks ago - wish I'd gotten my act together sooner but very glad to have ppl to talk about - sometimes it's easier to talk to strangers than friends about things like weight loss :) hope everyone had a great day!
