I am reading all kinds of conflicting things about dairy. Some articles say it is great as long as it is low fat cheese, yogurt and non-fat milk. Others say if you are or are not lactose intolerant it can still make you appear bloated in the abdomen, amongst other things and should be avoided, especially if you are looking to see ab definition. I am actually confused with this one. Most nutritional data and information I can weed through the different schools of thought. The dairy debate has me stumped as to if it is beneficial or not. What say you? Who is happy with dairy in their diet and why and who avoids it and why? Help a girl out.

Test what is right for you. This is also how I found out I was lactose intolerant.... Go completely dairy free for a week maybe two if you can.... (weigh yourself - see how your clothes are fitting - energy levels etc) then do as normal after that week(s) eat dairy as you would normally... And see how your body feels... Then you will know if your body can handle it .... Maybe you have to drop to one dairy intake a day or you can have it breakfast lunch and dinner... But it's an easy test.... Good luck!
  • I drink low fat milk just because i think it tastes better, but i only drink it with my weight loss shake.

When I do drink milk I like to drink Soy milk, it tastes better and its healthier for you.

I am actually at my weight loss goal. Actually would like to gain some muscle. But I do have some dairy in my diet, I just never thought it could be working against me in a manner of speaking.

    A big YES!
And any diet that encourages us to exclude a whole food group is a scam diet whether it's dairy, meat or whatever.

I'm moderately lactose intolerant and still consume dairy (and take lactase enzyme) very regularly.

Now, if I ever found myself in the final weeks leading up to a body building competition (which I frankly never will), and I suspected that it may cause bloating, then I would cut it out for those last few weeks.

But cutting out as a way of life? Nuh uh, never.

I agree with the gal who posted above...sometimes different foods effect some in a negative way. If I do small amounts of dairy I am fine. However, too much milk doesn't keep me "regular". Milk has plenty of calcium and Vitamin D, which is good for you. I wouldn't eliminate it if it does not effect you negatively. As my uncle, a doctor, puts it "just eat REAL foods and keep your body active and you will be as healthy as you can be".

I love full fat cottage cheese but prefer low fat Greek yogurt. Not sure why. Usually full fat, as a rule, tastes the best.

    Anywho...

I don't believe in removing foods unless these apply:

    1. You're allergic or intolerant of them (i.e. they make you ill)
    2. They trigger binges

Considering I live with someone who's lactose intolerant, I can completely understand wanting to remove dairy because of it making you sick. It's not pleasant whatsoever.
  • I have absolutly no dairy, whey or casien in my diet......i have no choice my 9 week old im nursing has an allergy to it. I switched to almond milks and they are so much healthier and taste really good! would i recomend completely dairy free for everyone no its really hard so much things have dairy and hidden dairy protiens (which my son is allergic to) Good luck! any one feel free to add me!!!

i agree with the stuff that says its great as long as its low fat. lactose and fructose are pretty much the only sugars that dont act like sugars...they are slow releasing, providing they arent taking in large quantities in one sitting (which increases glycemic load) so...moderate portions throughout the day is all good

dairy is disgusting and fills you with mucas. give it up and feel the difference. dairy is in almost EVERYTHING. you have to check labels to avoid it. its not just in yogart, and milk. granola bars, chocolate, soups, nearly everything has dairy now.
