What if I'm pregnant?
I was so sure that I was going to wait a year so that I could lose weight first. One stupid, half-sleepy moment on our wedding night could change all of that. We woke up in the middle of the night &...ya know. Didn't use a condom (I'm not on BC), he didn't pull out, and if my android app is correct I had high fertility because it was the day before ovulation. I won't know probably for a month if I'm pregnant or not. I will be excited if I am, but at the same time, I really really wanted to lose weight first
I guess there's nothing to do but play the waiting game to find out...then if I am, have the baby & get right back on track. *Sigh* I'm just disappointed in myself.

That sounds like a question better left to your doctor than a message board.0

Lots of women have lost weight while pregnant. I went to the gym when I was pregnant, but you have to keep your heartrate at a certain number, and you'd have to ask your gyno, because I can't remember what that was. There are tests that you can take before you miss your first period.
Edited to say don't starve the baby! (if you do turn out to be pregnant) The women I know of ate healthy and didn't go crazy just because they were "eating for two".0 -
I'm sorry you're feeling upset. What exactly is your question? That way maybe we can help you more efficiently.0

I guess I was looking for support..?
I don't know if that test would work, because I haven't had a period in 3-4 months (because of stress I think, I was abstinent before my wedding last week so I know I wasn't pregnant before then). I will talk to a dr./gyno as soon as I have one, I don't have insurance right now but my husband is in the process of putting me on his.0 -
Presuming you have a regular cycle, you'll know about 2 weeks after ovulation. No reason you can't still exercise and a baby is an excellent reason to eat as clean as possible!
Edited to add: and a blood test 2-3 weeks after will tell for sure.0 -
Continue to eat healthy and exercise. It's not only good for you but for your child as well should you find yourself in that situation. Don't stress over it. You can do this AND be pregnant too. You will want to eat healthy anyway while you are pregnant so just do it. If you lose some while you are at it, great. Typically the docs suggest that heavier women don't gain as much as smaller women anyway while pregnant. Too much can lead to gestational diabetes. So get after it woman. And if you are pregnant, congatulations. Motherhood is an awesome thing. ((hugs))0

You could contact your OBGYN and ask for an HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin)test. They will draw blood and you will know in 4 to 8 hours if your HCG levels are high.0

You should go to the store and get a pregnancy test to take. While they aren't 100% accurate you could at least try it out, they're pretty cheap.
Just because you haven't had your period doesn't mean it won't work. Pregnancy tests check for the hCG hormone, your placenta secretes that after fertilization.
edit: You can still have your weight loss goals with doctor's permission! But if you're pregnant don't starve yourself or do anything to harm the baby!0 -
Sweetie, if it's been two weeks since your wedding night, go pee on a stick. You're body begins making the hormone that the test detects as soon as you're pregnant, and some of them can detect it at a week to 10 days.
If you're pregnant and want to be, big congrats. Your doctor will be a big help in deciding how to lose, or maintain you're weight.0 -
You should be able to find out 2 weeks after you ovulated if you are pregnant or not.
Honestly, if you are, it will be a blessing. I got pregnant a month after I got married (6 years ago) and she was the best little surprise ever! You can eat healthy, take care of yourself, nourish the baby, and still go on.
Good luck!0 -
The pregnancy tests at the dollar store work well. Go buy a few and get to peeing!0

Better yet, use that HCG to.. oh never mind!0 -

It hasn't been long enough yet, I got married Friday the 13th so if we conceived it would've been on the 14th (when we had sex) or the 16th (when my app says I ovulated). I will take a test in a couple weeks and see.
Thanks everyone for your kind words...I feel better already. If I am, then I will absolutely eat right & if my doctor says I can I'll exercise too.0 -
Wait until the 2 week mark, then try a at home test. They are fairly dependable at that point.
As far as your weight, all the more reason to eat healthy.. You are not eating for 2, its only about 200 calories extra. {don't hold me to that number, your gynny will be a better source}.
All the more reason to exercise. My friend ran and wt trained throughout her pregnancy. When running became uncomfortable she used the elliptical and the bike. Her gyn counseled her on her HR limits. So I would suggest a good HRM. Its worth its weight in gold. A fit Mom has a better delivery.
What a wonderful wedding present. I have 2 children and cannot {nor would not} want to think of my life w/o them! Good luck. No time like the present to start on a healthy path!0 -
While others may not understand, I do. I'm trying to lose weight bc I don't want to be this weight while pregnant. If I had the same thing happen, I'd have the identical mix of disappointment/elation. Hang in there girl....if it's time, it's time!0

Well, here's the thing about kids...It's NEVER the "perfect time." They come when it's time, and they don't really wait for you to get your ducks lined up. lol Get used to it now; one day you'll have a little one to show you just how little control you have!
Congrats if you're pregnant, and congrats if you're not. If you're not, use this time wisely to prepare your body for when it happens. If you are, eat well for you and your little one.
Bottom line: GO FIND OUT!0
