Intimidated to lift weights?

I joined a gym about a month ago, but so far all I've done is use the treadmills. I want to start lifting weights so I can build muscle, and get that ideal muscular body. However, for some reason I don't go near the weight machines. I feel like everybody would be watching me, and that i wouldn't know what i'm doing. And I'm not very strong, so I feel like people would judge me about how weak I am... What do I do about this?

It can be intimidating to get into the weight room however most people there are nice - even if they don't look like it. My husband looks scary when he lifts but he is a very nice guy and will help people if they ask him. I would suggest reading some magazines that deal with natural body builders. Also ask the gym staff for help in learning the machines or even ask the people in the weight room - guys or girls. Maybe they have a personal trainer that can help you with a workout - for a fee most of the time.

The truth is most people don't go "people watching" at the gym. Most want to get their workouts done and be gone. So even if they look - they don't look for long. And don't worry about you not being able to lift heavy weight. We all have to start somewhere. Find a program that fits for you and don't worry about everyone else. Good luck and get in there!
