I just remembered that it is somebody's birthday at work and there are going to be a bunch of sweets. Unfortunately, I sit in the common area, and they will be put right by my desk. (This is non-negotiable). I'm really anxious thinking about it. Last time, I ate a tonnnn of them and felt sick and awful and guilty. I'm afraid if I tell myself that I can't have any ahead of time I will get even more anxious. I wouldn't mind having one (I wouldn't feel guilty), but if I have one it could lead to others...

I'm really overthinking this, I know! But it's stressful. What do you tell yourself when this happens?

I totally feel your pain.......not to worry at all about this. First of all, have you stopped drinking diet pop or any pop at all? If not, start. Its not that hard to stop drinking pop........trust me. You will feel more energized, less likely to touch cookies or anything sweet, and you will feel better knowing that you do not have that craving. A lot of people really don't know that drinking pop creates cravings for sweets, but its true.

Secondly, if you crave one........here's what I do.......I ride out that craving for a good few hours. If by a certain time..........for example you see them at 10am..........if by 2pm they are still there and you want one, go for it. Here's the kicker........have HALF of it and hide the other half from yourself (the old out of sight out of mind trick), drink some water to get the taste out of your mouth, and distract yourself from it by doing your work. If at any point in the day you feel that urge again, do the same thing over again.........ride it out for a while and if you really want it.........go for the other half of that cookie. By then, hopefully the cookies will be out of the way OR the day will be over and you are on your way home.

Another thing you could do for yourself is to take or (if you are already at work) buy some fruit and veggies that won't go bad if they sit out of the fridge and have them on your desk right in front of you. That way, when you feel the urge to snack, you will have a choice. Not only that, but keep water at your desk........sometimes when we have the urge to snack or think we are hungry, its because we are thirsty and not actually hungry.

    Hope this helps!

bring some water/flavored water/tea/something low or zero calorie and sip or chug or guzzle it!!

this was my technique at my boyfriend's football party last week and it worked well for me. I snacked along with them, but in MODERATION. and if I kept going back to my drink (I went pee 8920734 times) my tummy still felt full.

the action of filling my stomach was more important than what was actually going in.
