Dealing with Eating Out

Yes I have struggled with it! I have done what you do also, just to see how I can eat the rest of the day - nothing wrong with that at all0

Don't let food become your enemy. By looking up what to order, you're doing all you can do! Go out and enjoy. Additionally, experts recommend a cheat meal a week; may as well love it and not let it stress you out

^Yup I do this too!! Don't worry, you're doing everything you can by looking up what you're going to eat in advance and logging it so you know how much wiggle room you have. I think you're dealing with eating out very responsibly and now all that's left is for you to just go out and ENJOY your time0 -
I have the same issue. We are a 'eating out' family and I go out a lot with friends. It's fairly easy to stay within your calorie limit (if you watch what you eat for the rest of your daily meals) but inevitably, your sodium intake will be OFF THE CHARTS. It's very difficult to change your lifestyle so my best advice would be to check the restaurant menu (if you can) before you enter the restaurant and choose what you're gonna eat beforehand. Also, drinks tons of water that day and try to get a solid workout in.0

Go online to the restaurant's nutrition info and pick your meal before you leave the house, or use your myfitnesspal app and order from there - order with the calories and sodium and carbs in front of you instead of those pictures in the menu!
GREAT suggestion!0 -
I go to the restaurants web site, pick out everything I want to eat, enter it into MFP and then figure out how much I need to work out before hand to eat and drink everything I want and still be at or under my calorie goal. It works! I eat out once a week and don't have to feel guilty one little bit!
Such a great idea!! Thanks for that tip!0 -
Folks, I just don't go out unless I can eat something fabulous.
And that mean high calorie.
I refuse to order some rabbit food-looking dish of green something or other with a few shards of meat while everybody else is chowing down on the good stuff. To HELL with that!
Why even go?
Either eat out on a "free day" or exercise a few hours before and/or after to account for it.
That's my solution, and when I go out, I get exactly what I want with no restrictions.
Life is to be lived!
I love it!!0 -
I order off the appetizer menu when possible. Last night in an upscale italian bistro I had blackened seafood which was calamari, shrimp, scallops sauteed with fresh tomato and while bean. I had 3 glasses of sauvignon blanc and still made it under 1200 calories for the day.
My fav is escarole and bean. It always comes in a good size portion and fills me up as an app. even a slice of italian bread dipped in olive oil is manageable.0
