Hey friends and soon to be friends!!! What do you all think of this, to avoid the seemingly inevitable plateau of where you don't lose weight or it begins to happen significantly slower, what if after I make my goal in March where I SHOULD be in my 100s, I edit my profile to where I aim to lose .5 lbs a week and then in April do one pound a week and basically alternate monthly? Has anyone ever heard of this or is this a foolish idea? Right now I'm set to lose 2 lbs a week and I've been losing 3 a week the past two weeks.

P.S. If you want another friend please add me, you can never have too many on here!!!

P.P.S And what is "bump"???? I'm lost lol

Taking break every 6-8 weeks to eat at maintenance will help avoid plateaus.
  • Bump...I'm curious..good question!

I started out trying to lose 1.5lb a week in December, and even though I bumped it down to 1lb a week and I eat at or below my calorie recommendations, I'm plateauing. I think eating at maintenance (or at .5/week) is a good plan; I'll try it with you for a little while.

How long should we do this? A week at a time, or just a few days?

Well I was gonna alternate it by the month like March = .5 April = 1 May= .5 June= 1. I'm not really sure lol i'm new to this calorie counting thing but i'm sticking to trying to lose 2 a week definitely until march or when i hit 199 whichever comes first

"bump" is just what you post on a topic when you have nothing to add but want to come back later just to see what other people say about the topic. Once you "bump" it, you can go back under "my topics" and easily find the one you "bumped".

I think it is great you have a plan of attack if/when you plateau.
  • I hit a plateau when I reached 150. I kept in at 150 for 6 months and nothing. I then heard of zig zagging which I love! Everyday I eat a different about of calories. Tricking my body into thinking that I might be giving it more food and not or I am. I did it for a month and lost 4 pounds. I know it is not ideal but for me it was because I had stopped loosing weight.

bump is when someone subscribes to the thread by posting in it.. it "bumps" the thread back to the top (so others can see and reply to it) and it lets the person who "bumped" it see when someone replies.

because of the very basic nature of this forum (its not up to date with its abilities) you cant subscribe to a thread and watch it without posting in it.

in otherwords, she would like to see the same answer as you.

    ATT949:
plateau is when your weight(or whatever you're measuring) remains constant.. imagine it on a line graph... its going down, down down.. and then becomes flat.. that flatness is a plateau.

Thanks for the link to the article.

I understand the concept of a "plateau" in that one's weight remains unchanged for a period of time.

The question I should have asked is how people define a plateau — how much of a variance in their weight are they experiencing, over what period of time, and how is the variance being measured.

BTW, is that a pix of you on your bike? I've never ridden a sport bike. I'm not sure how long I'd remain a free man or stay alive if I got on one!

    BUMP is an acronym for
    Bring up my post
It is generally used on message boards so that your thread will be answered as it is staying on the active "most recent" threads. This ensures that it is likely to be seen and answered by the most people.

In regards to your question... I would also start incorporating strength training to your routine and try to switch up your daily activities.
