I do 100g while cutting and during maintenance I do 150-200 pending on if I will be running or weight training that day. I need alot of carbs when I run cross country trails.
  • Carbs are good.
Your brain uses carbs for energy, i think its a horrible idea.

I completely agree. Carbs are not the devil. Stick with the best kind - whole grains and fruits and veggies.

As long as your staying around 100 g of carbs i think you'll be okay. Just be sure to eat at least 2-3 servings of fruit a day.

If your eating below 50 g of carbs your body WILL go into ketosis eventually. You will be tired and weak. I recommend you only do this for 2 weeks tops, and be sure to have a re-feed every 5-7 days.

    Haha, Ms. Uninformed.

    ?

The brain uses 25% of the glucose you eat. Glucose is it's main fuel source, and requires glucose to perform effectively. Are you calling medical science wrong?

Actually, the brain PREFERS ketones to glucose and will run better on them. So will the heart. The only things in the body that ABSOLUTELY REQUIRE GLUCOSE are red blood cells. And your body will do a perfectly good job creating glucose from your dietary protein - if you let it.

Your Brain only runs on ketones when you are starving, complete fasting for several days. Otherwise, your brain runs on glucose. Whatever glucose is available, the brain will take. Even on a low carb, or no carb diet, your body will still manufacture glucose from protein and fat to fuel the brain, even when you're in ketosis. It takes several days of complete fasting before your brain starts to accept ketones as a fuel source, it certainly does NOT prefer them.

She's right. I've done modified protein fast's before. You can't stay in ketosis for too long, its just not healthy or natural.

I stay around 100g of carbs a day. The first week was hard. I was tired, grumpy, and my brain felt foggy. Wasn't sure I would be able to stick it out. It's been about 8 weeks and I'm doing great. I've cut out all chips, crackers, white breads, pastas, white rice, etc. If I do use bread, I use low carb tortillas from La Banderita. They're awesome.

Low carb is not for everyone, and you really need to do some research before you start. A low carb lifestyle is easy to do if you don't mind planning things out and getting creative.

Every Saturday is my "off day". I don't pig out or go crazy, but I do eat whatever I want (in moderation). This is usually a higher carb day for me.

On any given day, I eat:
    Eggs
    Cheese
    Hummus
    Turkey
    Chicken
    Fish
    Broccoli
    Beans
    Cottage Cheese
    Nuts

Your brain actually burns ketones more efficiently than carbs... and you bobdy is capable of manufacturing more than enough glucose for it's deaily needs from the protein and fat you eat. Big Food and Big Pharma WANT you to believe that you must have carbs in order to survive. It lines their pockets with cash and keeps you sick. What could be better for them?

Going low carb was just about the best thing I've done for myself. My wife is diabetic and I went on the diet her diabetic educator recommended in solidarity with her. Since September 22, I've lost 30 pounds. I have more energy. I feel great. And my bloodwork was AWESOME: triglycerides dropped 80 points, vitamin D up, iron up, electrolytes in perfect balance, A1C well under 5 (my doctor said she hasn't see ANYONE with an A1C under 5 in MONTHS).

I generally feel best around 50 - 70 carbs a day (this is net carbs - after fiber is subtracted from total).

The first six weeks were HELL. I had been a total carboholic... but since all "healthy eating" (low fat, high carb) was doing nothing but elevating mu triglycerides, I figured I had nothing to lose. Actually, I was wrong. I had plenty of weight to lose. So I'm 30 pounds down with 15 - 20 to go.

    Good luck.
