help!!! I i weigh 205 lbs and i just got a manual treadmil. i had been walking 15 minutes of what i would considered a moderate pace, with a slight incline and then decline ( around the block in my rural neighborhood. 4 days a week. on the other days hubby and i have spent the day walking slow at the local zoo/ botanical gardens. I do have exercise induced asthma , and neither one of these exercises brings on symptoms. I bought a manual treadmil so i can walk during inclament weather and acording to the fitness meter, after 10 mins @ 2.5 mph heart rate is up and im winded ( not quite where i need my inhalor but close). so how do i log in calories? And why such a difference between the 2 types of walking?

I've noticed that when I walk, I think i'm really going somewhere, but when I get on the treadmill, what is considered fast to me is logged as "moderate pace" as well-I have no clue why. Just go slowly as you build up, push a little, but don't push too hard...I have asthma as well, and sometimes I get attacks because of the workouts, and I have problems with my heart as well. Let me tell you, when you lose the weight, and as you build your endurance, you will feel SO much better-it really helps with the asthma symptoms (and my heart symptoms too)! Have you tried any yoga? I found that yoga really seemed to help my asthma...and my chest didn't feel so tight all the time when I was doing ti regularly either...it just loosens everything up. You're welcome to add me if you'd like!

I only walked a little over a mile last week, at a regular pace, and I had a full blown attack. Came home, had to use my inhaler, and then ended up all sick in bed for like half the afternoon afterwards. It's hit or miss with the asthma attacks when you first start but they will probably get less frequent as you go on. Always make sure to take your inhaler with you when you workout and if you feel "wheezy", ease up a bit until you feel better.

You're going to do a great job! You'll be able to go faster and farther as you work on it. :flowerforyou:
