So I weighed myself today and instead of losing I have gains half a pound!! I have worked out every single day doing weights and cardio. I also do the group classes at my gym....2 in a row hour long class. My calories have been between 1300 and 2400 ( this is from eating back most of what I worked out). Granted my diet hasn't been all that great but it hasn't been terrible either. It's not like I'm eating junk food or fast food. The only thing I can think of is carbs and snacking as the culprit. I also have not been working since Dec so that means I have been snacking more than usual but on things like yogurt, beans, nuts and cereal. How do you stay at home folks do it? I cannot be at home it drives me insane! Yes, I know that diet has a lot to do with it but if you' re working out everyday burning at least 600 cal/day how is it that I gained? My husband lost 5lbs in a week! He does mostly weights.
I'm just being a whiner. I'm upset that that I don't have a job and I'm eating all the time because of it. Just wanted to share.

Are you tracking everything you eat? I thought i ate very well but was not really losing either and i worked out about an hour a day. So i came back on here to track everything i eat. You forget how those handful of peanuts or slice of cheese (or whatever it is you can just grab throughout the day) add up. I also realized my portion size was too large.

I really think tracking your food is important, even when you reach your goal weight. It is also the hardest for me. But it makes me accountable.

Just continue on and don't let it discourage you.

People say that it can be muscle gain if you're working out more than usual but then I've also heard that that is a fallacy off other people, so who knows?

It could be your snacking or it could be water weight but half a pound isn't really a huge amount although I can understand why you're feeling down about it as it FEELS a huge amount when you've been working hard to lose it. In reality, though, it isn't too much so don't start feeling discouraged!

I am at home most of the time, although I'm a PhD student so I'm always working so don't really have time to think about food too much. When I do feel the urge to snack, I either go for something like grapes or I drink water unless I am genuinely hungry in which case, I eat something substantial. Another trick that works is to do some exercise. Sometimes that takes the urge to snack away by the time you've finished and if not, then you've burned off some calories and can allow yourself a healthy snack.
  • Hey there,
I am having the same thing over here! I recently gained 80 pounds doing invitro and then a pregnancy. My baby is 6 months now and I have lost 40 pounds BUT the scale has not gone down since December. In fact, it went up a few:( I did cheat during Christmas so was expecting no loss, but have been back at it working out and eating under my calories but still am not losing. It is frustrating, but from what I can find on the internet, this happens:( I think we just gotta keep doin what were doing! I hope! Let me know if you figure it out....I am new here and would love to be friends for encouragement!

the old addage, calories in calories out seems to be true. how ever many you take in and how many you burn. for example are you eating too much in calories that your body is staying at the same weight? also muscle. if you are working out regularly, your muscles are building up and all. don't be hard on yourself. there is a great website i found called skinnytaste.com check it out. it has some great makeover recipes
  • I am running into the same problem this week. Im at 1200 calories also, I do eat my exercise calories back ( or I would starve). I eat healthly. I've cut out most carbs and processed food. I do as much whole wheat, lean, and organic as I can. I've been working out regularly and really challenging myself. I haven't done any weighs, I know that can put on a couple of pounds at first. I typically burn over 2,000 calories a week!! I don't know what's going on. May be I need to up my calories. MFP suggest only losing one pound a week opposed to the two pounds a week I set it to. With losing one pound a week, my calories go from 1200 to a little over 1500. I am going to try losing the one pound a week and see what that does.
I'm trying not to be discouraged, I just don't want all of my hard work going down the drain.
