Are workouts more effective when done together or separately

My workout routines consists of 2 or 3, 20 mins workouts or 10 minutes. I usually do them one after another but due to the time constraint I was thinking of perhaps doing them separately during the day. Does it really matter whether I do them together or separately, other than more time in warming up and cooling down? Is one supposed to be more effective than other?

I try to limit my training to under an hour in the morning.
for cardio you would probably want to have them at different times of the day.
Cardio in the morning on an empty stomach and lifting later after having some food in the system for energy.

There's been alot of BS about this spread around on all sorts of sites, shows etc.

I have been told by not only Sport Science grads, Performance management professors and by several studies that I have come across in the past...

It boils down to what your goal is. If all your goal is, is to get your blood flowing and your a couch slob today. Then of course, 5x 10 minutes through out the day is good if thats the benchmark. So if you think about where you hear that information (ie television shows, website magazines, etc) who's audience is likely sedentary. It makes sense how that info can get conflated as fact in the best form.

If your actually taking your fitness seriously, you want to be healthy, active, fit and lose weight then concurrently is the way to go. Your body releases hormones when you work out that cause all sorts of wonderful things. Messages that tell your body this is the new going and to get itself ready for it. Which in turn leads to emotion benefits, physical benefits and stamina.

You just cannot get those at 10 minute intervals spread hours apart.

If you want a good cardio, thats fun and timely I would suggest a spin class. I thought at first I would hate it, since I dont ride bikes nor am I a group type. But it was so fun! I never, never get bored and I am in and out in under 50 minutes.
