bingeing on the weekends! I AM SO FRUSTRATED. I am a very structured person in the way that while I go to classes during the week, I have a certain schedule of how and when I eat. But once the weekend comes along, I just let go. I'll tell myself it's fine, I'll be back to eating healthy monday. But I know this is severely hindering my weight loss. Does anyone have ANY tips to help me? I'm getting so frustrated.

You need new activities that you don't associate with eating. And they need to be fun, no apologies for spending your free time on yourself, so you don't compensate with guilt and eating.

When I had a 9-5 job during the week I had the same problem. I couldn't plan anything on weekends because friends would want to go out suddenly and then I'd be scrambling to figure out my calories. I would do the same thing you do on weekends that you do on weekdays. Plan out your day. If you find that you are bored binging, figure out when you get the most bored and GO DO SOMETHING! Go for a walk or a hike or find a hobby to occupy your mind. If it's because you are getting impromptu invites I would set calorie limits to each meal. For example I know my friends were mostly evening inviters, so I would eat a fairly regular calorie bfast, I would eat something healthy and lower in calories for lunch leaving me with quite a few calories left over for evening that I could play around with.

You will be able to figure this out, just need to make what you do work for you. You are in charge, not the food.

My only suggestion is to hold yourself accountable no matter what. You don't need to start next Monday because you have already started. When I first started losing weight (lost 33 on another site before coming here) my very first goal was ONLY to track everything I ate. No matter what I ate I wrote it down, knowing that I would have to write down what I was putting in my mouth has helped a ton.

    I know that I eat when I

Is it the evenings you have trouble with on the weekends? Contrary to popular myth, you don't have to eat a bunch of meals a day unless you have some medical issue requiring you to. You don't even have to eat breakfast if you don't really want to. If I know i'm going out on the weekend, or even just having a big dinner at home, I'll save up my calories for the evening. It's not for everyone but it works for me!!

Doh, it posted before I was done!! I eat when I am bored or when I want to "reward" myself. Figure out what is triggering you to eat on the weekends.

That's been my problem for years. Fri night to Sunday night, I just kind of ate whatever. Sometimes only once a day but a larger take out type meal. I wouldn't gain, but I would I think just cancel out my week's work. No deficit. Now I work Saturdays, off Sun/Mon. So I get a high calorie (free, I don't say cheat) meal or maybe the day but don't go overboard on Saturday night OR Sunday. Monday I'm structured because I go to the gym straight away and then run errands. I don't want to undo my gym work since that's the time I can get the best work in when it's less crowded and I have nowhere I need to be. It's hard. I still like to eat out so I just get Subway or El pollo loco, something I can figure out and eat yogurt and fruit for breakfast and see how the calories play out

There IS a plan called the 5:2 plan... where you eat strictly and healthily Monday thru Friday, then allow yourself to let loose a bit on weekends. Perhaps you should consider making this your plan, that way you won't be so caught off guard by your overeating tendancies on the weekend and maybe, in turn, you won't feel so frustrated. Of course, you WILL have to exercise some sort of control/restraint on the weekends because if you are REALLY overeating, ultimately you WILL hinder your weight loss by undoing all the work you've done throughout the week. The point is to find a happy medium, where you're allowed to eat more of what you want without going completely crazy.

I don't know if this is making sense... it does in my head lol I have a similar problem, I overeat on the weekends mainly because I wake up five hours earlier than I normally do because I work the morning shift on the weekends and for some reason I tend to eat a lot more... a LOT more. So... I made it to where I try to keep strict Mon thru Fri and eat my goal of 1700 calories, and on Sat and Sun I eat my BMR of 2800... sometimes I do go over by even a few MORE hundred, but THAT's when I make the decision to at least workout to make up for it. So sometimes I'll go several days straight working out because I overeat lol, but sometimes it's easier to say no to food when you know that if you DO eat it, you'll have to work out to make up for it.

Anyways... even if this doesn't work for you, the main thing is that you get back up on Monday and continue to do your best. Don't stop, don't give up, just keep on truckin'! Maybe plan out your meals ahead of time... say "Ok, today I'm going to eat breakfast at 8, lunch at 2, snack at 4, dinner at 7, dessert at 9" or whatever and however... and don't stray from that plan. Keep yourself busy between then and don't give in!

Looked at your diary and noticed you're not consistently logging. I would start there and log everything, binge or no binge! Everything will come together after that, because you will start thinking about what you're eating and whether you want to log it or not. Good luck!

Allow yourself time to let that "frenzied" feeling (when you are making excuses for eating junk) pass through you....

You most likely are stressed... and really wanting just to calm yourself and get a break. I set out a basket of healthy food options on my counter. when I'm hungry, the basket is there, but often I would not want something from it. I thought to myself that it was just because I was in the mood for salty or crunchy... etc... But now that I have done more soul-searching, so to speak, I realize that I just wanted to escape for a few minutes.

Try a few deep breaths, then remind yourself what you want long term. Then think if there is anything that could possibly be stressing you. Do you need sleep? Do you need to calm down, maybe read a bit? Is a messy house bothering you? Are you too busy? Find out what might be bothering you and then make a plan of how to tackle it. If you can't do anything about it, you make a decision to accept it for what it is... and let it go.

Don't try to avoid the root of your stress by distracting yourself... trust yourself to tackle the problem.
