I posted something earlier asking my friends to take a look at my diary for the past week or so, and let me know if they thought it needed tweaking. I was told (and I agree), that I should cut carbs down. Soooo....Here I am....Looking for a list of low-carb foods. Yes, I can Google it. No, I don't want to. I'd rather hear it from my awesome MFP peeps.

  • You need carbs to fuel your body, the right ones. I would stick to fruits and veggies, and instead of eating white processed sugary stuff, eat wheat, wheat bread, wheat pasta, and stick to the protons on the box.

I added if you have any more questions!!!!

I agree, it is the quality just as much as the quantity.

^^ no! wheat breat is a step away from white bread.. not the best for you. I would go for WHOLE GRAIN OR RYE if you must have bread. Ezekiel bread is amazing for you.. it's literally right out of the Holy Bible! Lol, pasta should be dramatically cut down just because no matter what the ingredients are, it's still gone through loads of processing. You could live on zero carbs if you wanted to and would feel great.. you do not "need" them like many people think. Go read up the Atkins website. Just try to keep it lower than usual, under 50 grams a day is perfectly attainable, or even 20! healthy lifestyle changes are not always easy to make.. one step at a time! :) do some serious reading and googling before you listen to just anyone- and decide what you believe for yourself; there are tons and tons of different theories and methods out there, and the difficult thing about picking the right ones is that they are mostly all correct and all work in different ways for different things... test the waters and gain some knowledge, that's what weight loss journeys are all about.

It's not that hard to resist carbs if you're getting lots and lots of protein, but on the occasion that you feel a craving or you're missing pasta too much, try spaghetti squash. I love it, it is one of my favourite foods! or Shiritaki noodles, plant-derived so no chemical stuff but 0 cal 0 carb 0 fat 0 gluten 0 everything except vitamins/minerals!

So.. Perhaps suggesting a low carb diet without more understanding of what a person does in their life may not be the best... Carbs have a role to play in our living - particularly in providing stores of energy if people like to run, etc.... I'm not saying no carb diets are bad, nor am I saying they are good, just that I can't see enough here to suggest a low carb diet on... The Op asked so she can lower carbs... It necessarily go low carb as a 'diet plan'.

So, OP why were your peeps saying to lower your carb intake? Not that they are wrong, but if it is because you are choosing to eat carb based meals, them it may not be changing the simple carbohydrates for complex carbohydrates, but changing carbohydrates for proteins and fats.....

    Chicken...
    Lean steak...
    Vegetables...

I'm not trying to be a smart a** here, and I know that seems obvious, but I'm simply making the point that lowering your carb intake may be about changing the food sources more significantly than substituting... Hope you get what I'm saying here.

In some ways a list of what not to eat is easier ! Meat and fish is zero or very low carb in its basic form, but processed / packaged meats or fish may have coatings or sauces that increase their carb content. Hard cheeses like cheddar etc are also very low. Cream is reasonably low, as are unsweetened yoghurt.

Low carb vegetables are generally leafy green things that grow above the ground. Cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, kale, green beans, etc etc.

Mayonnaise and caesar dressing can be low carb - check the label - or oil based dressings.

Many nuts and seeds are fairly low carb - almonds, macadamia, walnuts, etc. Chia seeds and flax / linseed.

Low carb berries like raspberry, strawberry, blueberry. Tomato, bell pepper.

There aren't any carbohydrates you have to eat to thrive, unlike essential oils minerals and vitamins.
