Hi all

I have been super-good at portion control and improving my general food and exercise habits for the past three months. But I have a weakness...

Pre-dinner nibbles - chips and dip, cheese and crackers, olives, antipasto platters, anything that is sort of "choose your own adventure" instead of "put an amount on your plate and eat it and the rest is put away".

This is my downfall. I sit and munch away like the cookie monster and I can't seem to stop myself having just ONE more cracker with a smidgen of cheese, or just ONE more chip with some dip.

Has anyone got any helpful hints to tame the canapé consuming beast that possesses me?

  • Don't sit or stand near the food???....or maybe eat something healthy and light before heading out so you don't fill up on junk before main meal??? Drink lots of water??? Count calories as you look at the food first???

I'd fill up on water/club soda, then fill most of your plate with veggies and whatever healthy alternatives to cream-based dip there are. Give yourself a small taste of the others, but make sure you're not starving when you arrive. Eating a green salad before you go to the party doesn't hurt anyone, and you won't sabotage your hard work by eating the junk offered as appetizers.
  • talk! you can't put food in your mouth when you're chatting ... lol sorry no real advice, that's my weakness too so I usually just go late to things or don't have anything cause once I start there's no breaks.
