Hey! I'm training to run 5K in April with a good friend of mine and we both have the same problem: SHIN-SPLINTS!

I've tried stretching, rubbing, icy hot cream, different surfaces, EVERYTHING it seems. Is there something I'm missing? Is there a better way to prevent/relieve shin-splints while running?

Thanks guys!

Nothing has ever worked for me! While playing soccer and riding horses, I always get them in my right leg, never the left! I just try and push through them and little ibuprofen. Sorry now advice, but I've tried everything before too!

Could be your shoes or your running form. Some fitness/sports stores will do an analysis of your heel/toe strike and determine if you are over or under pronating. I believe there are also websites that you can upload a video of your feet on a treadmill and they will analyze it as well.

As far as stretching, you can stand on the outer edges of your feet for 15-30 seconds x2 , and then you can stand on the balls of your feet then rock back, and you can do typical calf stretches as well as putting your feet under your rear (kneeling) and lean back on your toes.

I would definitely check shoes and running form - most often this is the cause.
