So fellow women runners out there… Do you have this issue with your significant other? I was getting dressed for my long run on Saturday. I’m already nervous of it as I hadn’t run that far yet, it was cold (for Arizona it was cold; 49 degrees) and somewhat overcast with a slight breeze. So yeah you get the picture. I’m not looking forward to going out. I prefer to run alone, it’s my time to zone out, draw on myself and clear my head. My husband comes home from doing whatever he was doing that morning and gets upset that I am going running by myself. Excuse me; I have been doing this for HOW many months now it’s what I do every Saturday morning? Where have you been? He proceeds to tell me about the teacher in Montana that is missing after her morning training and have only found her shoe. He tells me (not asks) to wait until he can go with, but it’s going to be a couple hours until he can. He won’t let me go alone; it’s just not safe out there, blah, blah, blah! Couple hours, really? Its already 10:30 am, I have a dozen things I want and need to do today. I want to get my run done, completed and out of the way so I can move on. Not to mention, remember, I prefer to run alone, and he’s SO not in shape so I would have to keep going slow, backing up, whatever so I can stay in his "sights". GGGRRRHHHH!!! Seriously, I don't think so.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate his concern, but it’s not like I am running when its dark, in the middle of the night or morning, I’m not running on back alley streets or in non-public areas. I am running on VERY populated main roads (yeah get to breath gas fumes) along areas where it’s commercial or minimum very residential. I have a whistle and pepper spray that I carry in my hand. Yes I have an mp3 player, but only one bud in my ear and the music is not loud at all. So anyway we proceed to have a HUGE fight about it, he storms out, as do I and we still have not come to terms with this.

Ladies, men what do you do? I would love your feed back.

i think he is just worried to be honest. doesnt sound like he means any malice. i joined my local running club because of this and i feel safer in the winter. we run in paced groups and so no one is left alone. sometimes my pacing partner isnt there and i can run on my own but know someone is infront of me and someone else will be at the back if i slow down/ get lost. maybe worth considering?
