Ok I do this survey which earns me amazon money. I have 40.00 so far and should have 50 soon. Tell me about your HRM. I know everyone says you have to get one with a strap. Is there one brand that is good without one? Tell me which one you use how much you paid. I really want it for calories because I am not believing the gym machines and MFP is higher then the machines at the gym. Help me out..hoping my husband will cave and add to my funds and get me one for Valentines day instead of flowers and a card...

Any HRM that does not have a strap will not be accurate at estimating calories burned.. so you def. need one with a strap.
Polar is the most popular brand around here.. FT4, FT7, FT40 and FT60. All come with a chest strap and are pretty accurate when it comes to calories burned.0 -
I have this one: (Polar FT4)

I overpaid, I bought it at Target and it's $90 there, wish I'd looked on Amazon first since they have it for $66.
The ones with the chest strap are generally thought of as being more accurate b/c they are reading your heartrate the whole time you're working out, through every little change in heart rate, rather than you having to 'touch' something every now and then. The ones that don't have a strap, you have to 'touch' the sensors on the watch every once in awhile and it uses an average based on those measurements.0 -
I started with just the watch type, no chest strap, and you have to put two fingers on the watch periodically to get your heart rate - so not super accurate, didn't always read, which resulted in me stopping my workout just to get my dang heart rate! Looked around for a PolarFT# or New Balance N4 after reading good things about both and comparing. Found a brand new New Balance N4 on eBay for $26 and I love it - put it on, push go on the watch and it records my heart rate & calories burned (along with some other stuff) and I don't have to think about it at all until I push stop when my workout is done. Definitely worth it to get one with a chest strap!0
