Low sodium alternative?

Options
Hey all,

I'm looking for any ideas for a lower sodium substitution for ranch dressing mix and italian dressing mix. Lots of my favorite recipes call for this, but those two are crazy high in sodium!

For italian mix oilve oil and balsamic vinegar...sort of what you get to dip bread in @ Italian restaurants. Give it a good shake before you pour it tho to help sort of mix the two.

Olive oil, vinegar (red wine), and freshly ground black pepper.

try finding recipes on a site like eatingwell.com or something like that. pretty much any packaged mix will be loaded with sodium, but if you start from scratch you can made something great!

I buy alot of my spices and blends from Penzeys. They have stores in many cities and you can order online. They have a Tuscan Seasoning and a Green Goddess that are salt free (in fact, they have many salt-free blends available including several chili powder blends)

Even if you don't buy, they list the ingrediants and I bet you could create your own version with this information.

FYI - if you are looking for salt-free spices and blends here is a link to all of Penzey's listings.

Thanks for the links. I'm a ranch-a-holic (Hidden Valley is my weakness)...and need to find something different but healthy! :)

Looking for seasoning (i.e. dry) or the actual dressing? Pre-made Newman's Own light italian is decent I think on sodium, and sugar. Might try googing for a ranch recipe and then see how you can make it healthy.

Thanks, everyone. I'm looking for a dry mix. A lot of my crockpot meals call for it, and I really hate dumping in the straight sodium from those packets.
