Sort of confused...

I'm new to the site! And not really well versed in blogs and message boards and such, please forgive me!
This is my 2nd attempt in the last year to change my eating habits/ fitness habits for the better. In October of 2011, I changed how I ate. Only eating non-processed foods, or basically sticking to my fruits, veggies, and more basic forms of protein, like fish. In a month and a half I lost 10 lbs. I was so proud of myself. And then the holidays came, and procrastination came with it. Then the weight quickly followed.
I know I can do this! I know I want to do this! I know the feeling when I do make those weekly accomplishments of sticking with my goals. I just have to re-train my brain to do it! Food is like a widely accepted, highly addictive drug! And I'd like to kick the habit! But I'd also like to rally supporters! So, if I can help you, or you can help me! Let me know!
Happy Health!

Well done on deciding to get it done. I've tried, and failed, so many times, but MFP is so easy, it gives you all the choice and freedom you want, but gives you the advice you need. I absolutely love it!! I've been here since November 1st, my weight loss is slow, but still far quicker than it ever has been before and most of all, I am so enjoying it
Good luck in everything, feel free to add me if you want a friend0 -
Ditto on your first paragraph! I'm also not sure which message board is the best place to post this.
I need some help figuring out the calories I burn doing the exercise class I go to for an hour, three times a week. I go to a total body workout class which uses, among other things, resistence bands, kettle balls, & Bosu balls for balance. We do cardio and strength training. We use no weights or machines. Apparently, according to the teacher, this type of class is not really mainsream, but is done by some professional sports teams. (And I'm certainly nowhere close to that level!)
I also need help because the exercises I do are nowhere to be found in the site's database. Although the exercise section suggests that you use an exercise closely related to what you do, I can't find squats, bicept curls, tricept curls, etc., let alone those using resistence bands.
Any help would be appreciated!0 -
@Amandagyeoman - you are in the right place If you friend people on here and sometimes look at the diaries (is opt to leave this open to ppl or not) then you will see a huge variety of diets. Some people's diets consist of a lot of fast-food etc and they just eat less to lose the weight, and then there are others taking the healthier approach you have done in the past. I find that as you said with family and friends/holidays it's SO hard to stick to a mostly raw diet, so I use MFP to help with this too! I eat whatever I like within my calories, but most days I prefer "good fuel" for my body ie fruits, veggies, almonds, greek yogurt (<this is a new fave). So, feel assured that you can do it (and stick with it even through the holidays) w/MFP Welcome and good luck!! Feel free to friend me if you like
@Mommo62 - you can guesstimate, but everybody will tell you the most accurate way to estimate your calorie burn is to invest in a HRM. I finally got one after being on here about 8 mos. I found mine used from a site like craigslist, so you can try that. Also, don't fret over it too much. To give you an idea of a ballpark I do Jillian Michael's 30 day shred DVD which is very similiar it sounds (she does 3 min of strength, 2 min cardio, 1 min abs and then repeats for a total of 3 circuits) and with her I burn 150-200 cals about in a 30 min workout. (I am close to my GW though, so if your just starting out you may burn more too) BUT it's better to underestimate I think. So as long as you eat some of those calories back, you should lose steadily Good luck!0 -
Welcome to MFP
It took me a while to get used to this kind of dieting; I've never done calorie counting before. But now I find it really easy.
If you would like to add me as a friend, feel free! The more support for each other the better! I'm 23, from the UK and aiming to lose 6st overall, at least 2.5st of which I want to lose by mid-April xo0
