maintenance?

So I see some people on here say they are going to switch to maintenance for a little while. Some people say they are switching to "their goal maintenance" and others I assume are just switching to "their current weight maintenance." This is an honest question---not to be mean or anything, BUT why would you switch to your GOAL maintenance if you are NOT at that weight yet:huh: ? Basically I don't understand why you would switch to your goal maintenance and not your current weight maintenance:huh: ???

I am asking this question because I have stalled and I am debating if I should switch to maintenance for a bit since my body has been at this caloric deficit since November and I think it might do my body some good. Maybe it will shock my body to be getting some more food. So if I decide to go this route I would switch to maintenance for my current weight correct? Will I see a rise on the scale at first for getting to eat more calories---and if so how long should that last?

    you have to switch your goal to make your calories higher (maintenance). Set it to say you would like to stay the same weight instead of + or - .5, 1, or 2 lbs per week. You can always switch it back when you're ready to start a caloric deficit again.

    I understand it this way:

    Your goal weight calories are what you would eat to maintain your goal weight.
    The calories MFP gives you is what you would need to eat to lose 1lb a week/3500 calories per week (or whatever you're set to).
    When you reach your goal weight, obviously, you're not trying to lose weight anymore so it calculates what you need to eat every day to maintain that weight.
    You could eat your goal weight calories and still lose weight, you just wouldn't lose at the rate you would of being on a plan to lose 1+ pounds every week.

    SO, you could switch to your maintenance weight and not worry too much about gaining weight, just be aware that you won't be losing as quickly (...probably. sometimes bodies are weird :laugh:)
