weightlifting gloves

Anyone have suggestions for weightlifting gloves? I plan to start lifting heavy...(still working up to it, did 20 lb curls today) Some of the reviews I've seen on Amazon for the Harbinger and Saranac b-grl gloves aren't that great. I have small hands...and I want something that's comfortable.

I use cheapies from Walmart. But, considering I avoid using them whenever possible, I'm not picky about quality.0

go to a sporting goods store and try some on0

No specific brands or anything that are better than others? I like to buy quality equipment, not cheap stuff....as tempting as the cheap stuff is...haha.0

I use Harbingers. Some people say theirs get holes quickly but I've had mine for about a year and no troubles. I also lift heavy. They weren't too expensive so when I have to replace them I won't be too upset. Just go try some one. I would go with cheapies first because what if you don't like lifting in them?0

Got mine on sale at Kmart...Weider brand. Less than $10. Serves their purpose.0

I bought Nike ones almost 3 years ago, I also lift heavy and they really helped. They are women's (so made for smaller hands) and they're still holding in there (although they are getting pretty frayed around the edges).0

I like to feel the knurling (grip) on the bar so I rarely ever where gloves. If my calluses are too thick and I'm doing heavy barbell/dumbell curls these are the gloves I use. They are "fingerless" and they are easy to take on and off.

Was just going to say something similar.
For me, I prefer without as it feels more comfortable and natural. You get calluses but they only really show just after a workout, the rest of the time I can only see mine a tiny bit.
If you prefer gloves though, any decent sports shop should stock them, I've seen loads about where I live, just try them on until you find ones that fit nicely.0 -
I use Harbinger gloves.0

If you're going heavy, I strongly recommend some wrist straps.0

I like the Harbinger gloves--they are a little bulkier, however. I do think it is best to try them on--I went to the store when I got mine and ended up with a completely different size that I had planned.
Mine wear great--again, a little stiff to get on and off, but you can just throw them in the wash when needed.
I have one hole in the thumb, but that's one my buddy chewed in right before he died, so I wouldn't give that up for anything. Dogs, or at least mine did --LOVE used weight lifting gloves. He would nudge open the zipper in my gym bag and root around for 10 minutes if necessary to find them.0 -
another vote for chalk here0

i had the b-grl gloves and really like them! I have small hands too and the fit is great!0

Chalk and usually only when pulling.0

I think clausses (sp) on a man's hand from weights are sexy as hell0

I don't recommend em, unless you really need wrist support on pressing. The callouses and blisters are your badges of honor - cherish them.0

No chalk allowed in my gym, I do wear gloves on lifting days - fingerless ones as mentioned above.0
-
I wear ones with wrist supports ones where you can wrap around your wrist once or twice.0

I have harbingers. They work nicely but my grip suffers on any pulls, they're really thick.0

I have used Harbingers lifting hooks for shrugs, dead lifts, lunges, etc. I do have a pair of the cheapie Harbinger gloves, but not my favorite. As far as gloves, I used the Golds Gyms Gloves that Walmart Sales...already have the wrist wraps. Or U can get the Harbinger Gloves with the Wrist Wraps at Sports Authority for about $25. In 10 years, maybe gone through 1 pair, 2 pair the most.0

I used fingerless lightweight Harbingers for a year or so and I loved them. It really depends on what fits your hand the best so you should try a few different brands and sizes on in a sports store. You don't want them to pinch you anywhere and/or rub against your skin and create an abrasion or anything.0

No chalk allowed in my gym,
Rosin bag is the next best thing.0 -
I do have harbinger fingerless gloves but have found that when I use them the bar just slips straight to the fingerless bit & feels like it's going to drop very soon.0

I prefer gloves and mine are Nike and I love them. Harbinger is also another great brand. Really, just get into a sporting goods store and try them on. Fit is most important.
*Note* I lift heavy and use gloves but still have calluses. It's a price you pay when you lift but totally worth it.0 -
I just got gloves. I'd been lifting since October without them and it still hurt really bad. I'd get blisters under my calluses and I think the pain was holding me back from moving up on lunges and step ups.0

I'm all about the gloves....Nike fits my slender hands well. Fingerless.
I shake hands A LOT in my job and my hands remain smooth and business-friendly.

I'm torn about it. After seeing my hands post deadlift, my trainer said with a smile "You're going to get man hands!" as if this would please me. Why would that please me?? I want to be strong, I don't want to look manly in any way. But I digress. I have no gloves.0
