Not hungry...and I'm worried.

This is the start of week 4 of my diet, and I have lost 7 pounds so far.

To lose 1.5 pounds/week, MFP put me at a goal of 1530 calories a day... I've been eating around 1100-1300 and I'm not hungry. Today I ate 764 calories...and I'm not hungry.

I'm worried though. I am not exactly sure what "starvation mode" is, but the site "warned" me about it when I submitted my food diary for the day.

Any advice?

Do you work out? I think either way, whether you do or don't, you will start wanting more food soon enough. I'm not an expert or anything, so this is just a theory, but maybe your body is not hungry because though you are eating less, you still have excess fat that your body is metabolizing for energy? Just a theory though. :) Could also just mean you are eating better / more nutrient dense foods and that in turn is causing you to be less hungry.

The only exercise I do daily right now is running around the office all day and a 10 minute dog walk 2x a day. I bought myself the "Slim in 6" workout which I'll be starting when it arrives, so maybe then I'll eat more.

I also think what I can do is try to consume more calories in my breakfast and lunch and have something small for dinner when I come home and I'm pooped out from work.

Or maybe I'm at this mental state where I feel like I can save up calories so I can "cheat" some other time during the week....

He is a novel idea. If you are not hungry, don't eat. Don't worry.
  • If you're hungry and you've only eaten 800 calories DO EAT.
I don't sense hunger that much, so I can go all day without eating and not really notice it until at night when I have a terrible headache. Food is fuel! You need it!

I drank like 11 glasses of water today... maybe that's why??? Thanks all for your answers so far.
  • I wouldn't worry about it. It's just one day, right? I mean, it happens sometimes.

I'm on day one of a 3-day cleanse and I've only about 651 cals so far today... and I'm not hungry. It's not how I'll eat always so I don't think it's anything to stress about.

I wouldnt worry about it if it's once in a while. The only thing I would suggest is if your calories are consistantly low try changing what you are eating to (healthy) calorie dense foods. Skip anything "light" (generally they have crap loads more chemicals anyways and you can afford the extra calories)

I get like that too.... Today I had about 800 calories left and I wasn't hungry at all but I just consumed a 300 calorie "snack" to make it lower. Bleh, I kinda feel like I shouldn't have but oh well. I agree though, if your not hungry, then don't eat. Maybe just try to eat more with breakfast and lunch, like you had suggested and all should be ok. :)

BTW.... Slim in 6 is awesome! It's hard, but it pays off. I did it a few years back and made it to the first week of phase 3 and quit bc it got too intense. But i lost weight, noticed muscles i didnt have, and you do see result. sThis time I'm doing it again and plan to stick with it. So far I'm at week 3 day 1. Good luck!

to everyone saying 'if you arent hungry, dont eat" - if i listened to you, i would eat once every couple days.. i almost never feel hungry.
to the op: try to get as close to you daily goal as possible - i like using almonds, or peanut butter toast... avocado and cheese on a whole wheat tortilla, etc. use olive oil when cooking or to make salad dressings.. once in a while wont hurt but you dont want to constantly eat under your goals.

It warns you when you're below a certain number...Being low occasionally isn't going to be devastating to your health. There really isn't a reason to worry, you'll be just fine.

This happened to me. After a month into my diet I'd find myself not craving foods as much as before, even though I was barely scratching my caloric intake.

Just be mindful that eating your caloric intake per day is not just a recommendation - you should aim for it. Don't force food down your throat but be mindful that sometimes you mind can play tricks on you and may be trying to convince you that you're not hungry.

On another note, it could be your body starting a starvation mode cycle. To trigger yourself out of it, try changing the types of foods you eat and different types of exercises. I'm not 100% why this helps, but when I ate different foods and did more weights instead of running, I starting losing weight more regularly again without dropping my calories at all.

Hmm... also interested in the answers. I'm worried about starvation mode if I eat too few cals.

I've only consumed around 400 cals today (breakfast to mid-afternoon) and am wondering whether I should be eating the 1000 cals (net) I have left but don't think I'll be able to do it. I'm not hungry too.

I've been like that, too. It's all too easy for me to skip meals and ignore hunger. Sometimes I've had to log my food to make sure I'm eating ENOUGH rather than not eating too much. I've been both underweight and overweight by "listening to my body" and only eating when I was hungry. My body obviously doesn't have very good instincts when it comes to nutrients and calories.

i don't think it's an issue unless you're constantly at the 700 calorie mark. i had difficulty eating all last week but it is getting better and i'm eating now. (i had some stomach issues)

I'm in the same boat - I'm supposed to be eating 1380 cal a day - but if I excercise at all, I'm under 1200 and they warn me about 'starvation mode' - I'm definitely not hungry either - I think that's why I gained the weight in the first place... I'd go sometimes a couple of days without eating (honestly I'd just forget) then binge on the 'evil trio' (chips, chocolate, pop) . My goal with this is to start with at eating at least 3 meals a day with 2 snacks - so that my body gets used to having regular, healthy food. I figure once I've trained myself to do this - hopefully my metabolism with be jump started and the weight will come off and I'll be overall more healthy:smile:
