Soda is ok, but beer is better for you.

But I don't like the taste of beer ...
Can I have a frozen mudslide instead?
Only if you share with me! :drinker:0 -
Coca Cola is great stuff . . . for cleaning grease stains off your driveway; but keep it away from your body.
Does that work?? Would it work on interlocking? lol we have tons from the crappy newspaper delivery car.0 -
Mm soda! Oh how I miss you running through me
me too!!!!
24 days pepsi free not gonna lie there are days I miss it..0 -
Well, actually, soda WILL hydrate you. That isn't a lie.
Yes, it's full of sugar and calories, but also water.
People are allowed to make their own decisions. Coke has been around a heck of a lot longer than this obesity problem. And plenty of people are overweight who never drink soda of any kind. Or wat fast food. In fact, I know many people who are overweght who probably eat healthier foods than most people on this site, just more than they should.
Coke is a company trying to make money. Are they supposed to advertise that if you drink the product you'll be fat?
Someone works for Coke.
But you have to admit ppl are drinking more soda then they ever have. It doesn't matter if coke has been here for along time or not. When coke first came out to the market it actually had Cocaine in it. So because they are trying to make money that gives them the right to do what ever they want? Not saying that they should say it makes you fat but they shouldn't advertise that it hydrates you because thats a complete lie.0 -
Covo-cola aka COCAINE COLA is a hell of a drug
http://www.naturalnews.com/032658_Coca-Cola_cocaine.html
Does it bother anybody that these scammers lace these drinks with addictive chemicals?
That fact, as it stands alone, should be enough.0 -

Good for you!! And Pepsi IS the better choice, anyway.
Ok ok not starting a coke-pepsi argument here folks.0 -
I am a soda addict so I do not share your disgust, lol.
I limit myself to 1 caffeine free coke a day. One of these days I hope to be off the stuff.0 -
Doesn't the caffeine in it (if regular coke) affect hydration???0

What people? I drink less soda now (barely have one a year, if that) than I ever did. Growing up, that was all anyone drank. And they were all of healthy, normal weights. I used to have Pepsi and pizza every day after school when we didn't go to McDonald's. I was a size 3. In fact, I started gaining weight when I stopped eating junk food.
I don't work for Coke, I don't even drink it except on EXTREMELY rare occassions. But I do believe that people are responsible for their own decisions and you can't blame a company for the choices people make.0 -

Not unless you drink fairly large quantities of it.

I cut way back on soda because of the sugar, but I still like to have some coffee or tea in the morning.0 -

Thank you Will check out the site.
I, too, enjoy some sugar in a coffee once in a while. Other than that, sugar comes from natural sources - like fruit.0 -

It's called False Advertising.. Companies do it all the time and unless they are breaking the law, then it's legal to say that Coke hydrates you.. even if it is a lie.0 -

Yeah I understand everyone makes their own choices but you had to admit the companies have a way of swaying us one way that will benefit them. Take a look at cigarette companies before they HAD to put that it gives you cancer. They obviously knew it but the ads always showed that you HAD to have a good time by having a cigarette. A lot of us are busy and do not have the time to research everything that is made and considered food. As consumers we just assume that the companies who make them have our best interest at heart because they made us think that.0 -
Oh, god, Fanta. My boyfriend drinks that. He mistakenly got me one when we stopped at a gas station (I made him take it back in and get me at least a diet soda instead). I had a sip of one when he bought a new flavor, and I swear I felt like I'd go into diabetic shock. It was like drinking pure sugar after having given up cokes all this time. I couldn't even choke something like that down anymore, and I'm thankful for it. What a waste of empty calories--not to mention how bad it is for you.0

I'm new here (1st day!) and I recently gave up my Diet Coke, a long long-time habit. Within a month, I lost 8 pounds and did not have much of an appetite! Took me awhile to figure it out; thought I was sick. And I don't even miss it (much). I have a hard time drinking water so I drank dc instead, now I drink alot of coffee :drinker:0

Actually, soda can hydrate you. its just not the best choice for it. Water is one of main ingredients of soda, and you body will use that water.

Beyond the tap: Other sources of water
Although it's a great idea to keep water within reach at all times, you don't need to rely only on what you drink to meet your fluid needs. What you eat also provides a significant portion of your fluid needs. On average, food provides about 20 percent of total water intake. For example, many fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon and tomatoes, are 90 percent or more water by weight.
In addition, beverages such as milk and juice are composed mostly of water. Even beer, wine and caffeinated beverages — such as coffee, tea or soda — can contribute, but these should not be a major portion of your daily total fluid intake. Water is still your best bet because it's calorie-free, inexpensive and readily available.0 -

I get that.. but just for the sake of using OP's wording, thats why I said that.
Thats interesting though that milk and juice can count.. I only count water and tea normally!0 -

Tobacco companies didn't have to put the cancer warnings on cigarrettes in the 1940s and 1950s, but people still called them "cancer sticks" back then. So people KNEW they caused cancer without those warnings and still chose to smoke.
I do not smoke (mever have). I don't drink soda. I haven't eaten fast food other than a sub once in a while in YEARS.
I'm subject to the same advertising as everyone else. So what makes me so special?
And it is NOT a lie that Coke hydrates. If it didn't, there would be a lot of people (who only drink Coke and not water or juice, etc.) dead from dehydration.0 -

I absolutely see what you're saying about the rhetoric these companies use to try and entice consumers to buy their product. But I don't honestly think most people see a commercial and go right out and buy a Snickers bar, or a Coke, or cigarettes and honestly think they're good for them. I think most people are more savvy than that. It's not that hard to think for yourself. (Granted, not all people do, which boggles my mind.)0 -
I'm 20 days diet soda free, and there've been times when I was basically shaking, jonesing for my cold dark delicious friend... It's getting easier, now, but not by as much as I'd have hoped.
Okay, I must admit, cold flat coke on race day is a real joy. I race on it and during the toughest training peaks, I've trained with it. It really hits the spot when I'm 60 miles into a race, and I've got 10 more to go. Past that, sugared sodas taste like sludge to me, and make me wish I could wash it out of my mouth.
Sadly, sometimes surviving the urge for a diet soda means I'm shoving other bad food choices in my mouth. So, here's hoping as my DS-free life continues, I can find ways to not substitute one bad thing for another.0 -
at least snickers has peanuts and some protein. coke is nothing but sugar water. that's how i refer to all sodas now to make me not want them, no i don't want a glass of sugar water, thank you.
not that i'm defending snickers, someone should just eat peanuts if they want peanuts0 -

Snickers has partially hydrogenated oil (trans fat), which is quite possibly worse than sugar water.0 -
I looked at the nutrition label on my husband's 20oz. bottle of Pepsi last night and the whole bottle had 69g of sugar! That's a lot for just 20oz. It's crazy!0
-
Mine is diet pepsi! But oh how I love it. Down to a couple a week.0

Coke, like all soda diet or otherwise, is poison to me.
I do not trust what these scammers are lacing these drinks with.
NO THANKS!
Just pure water please.....
that!0 -
Seriously, there was an ad saying coca-cola hydrates a person???? WOW...talk about false advertising. That is sad really...I feel bad for all the kids out there that don't know any better and are drinking pop instead of water on a daily basis...starting bad habits at such a young age! No wonder obesity is a problem in North America....
Coke is a joke...and really it should only be a TREAT. Having one here and there won't kill you (well, hopefully...lol). However, too many people have it as part of their regular diet, but if they stopped drinking it they'd probably lose weight so much faster... Not to mention all the health benefits from NOT ingesting something that can destroy a penny! lol0 -
"Tell Bill to have a Coke and a smile and to shut the *kitten* up!"
I used to love colas... Wild Cherry Pepsi, Sunkist Orange, Mountain Dew... ugh. Kicking Mountain Dew was so difficult that I had to go on methadone.
Then I read an article about what B.V.O does to your body, and then I read an article about all the genetically engineered corn products that go into the HFC that is in the Coke, and then, and then, aaaaannnd thennnnn.... (Dude, Where's My Car?)
I stopped.
OK, not cold turkey. I'll have a can of coke from time to time. However, I'll never go back to my daily 44-oz Big Gulp. My body simply won't tolerate it anymore. Too many immediate unpleasant side-effects.
In my pants.0 -
On the upside, Coca Cola is THE best hangover cure in the entire world, ever. I swear by it, it's my go-to for those occasional unbearable mornings-after-the-night-before'. (In moderation of course).
Tastes great as well, but that's just my opinion :drinker:0 -
Does Coke in the UK use HFCS? I couldn't find a bottle where i live that was not from an arab country to check.
Side note: i gave up cola/ fizzy anything before chirstmas.. i had 1 glass of pepsi last night and this morning i was bloated and billious0
