I NEED HELP FOR FISH!!
I recently had a heart attack and a need to incorporate fish into my diet but not a fish eater. I hate messing with bones and need to keep the fishy smell to a minimum any delicious ideas for me to try--willing to try anything.

Well... first things first - you need to be adamant on asking them "when was this delivered/received?" - the fresher the better.
If you SMELL the seafood, then the seafood is NOT fresh... Thats going to eliminate the 'fishy' issues you have.
You dont have to deal with bones - BUT, you will pay a much higher price for the convenience of having the fish cleaned.
Not all seafood has bones: scallops, clams, shrimp, mussels.....
Kansas City has a fish-market/restaurant that you could easily walk in and talk with their staff who run the market portion of the business... ask for a seasoned rep or a manager to help educate you on seafood-in general... http://www.madjacksfreshfish.net/
As far as tasty recipes.... you will need to get specific on the 'likes' side of things because I could suggest tons of recipes but they may either be too complicated for you, have too many ingredients, or worse - may not be available for a reasonable price where you reside....0 -
well I hate fish too but my husband last night had 4 large bass given to him and he gets mad if i dont eat fish so i put a piece in some alumuim foil and got some no salt spices mrs dash (spicy kind) and sprinkled heavly on it and baked it for about 30 minutes on 350 turned out wonderful. i could eat it and not make a face. I will be eating this again tonight:bigsmile:0

Marination mix: yogurt+spices to taste+garlic paste (1 tsp)
Keep the mixture for 20-30 minutes.
Steam in a closed pan or fry.
You will love it. The yogurt marination is an Indian recipe.0 -
Ok I dislike most fish too...same reasons...but I got this big bag of Parmesan Crusted Tilapia from Sams Club...(probably at most grocery stores but I haven't looked)...it's Treasures from the Sea brand I think...anyway, it is soooo good. Not fishy, no bones, and quite flavorful. One large piece is only 220 calories if you bake it!0

Baked Flounder with a tiny squirt of lemon juice is really good, and I hate fish.0
-
I love salmon grilled and topped with some barbecue sauce. If cooked well, it almost tastes like you're eating ribs!0
-
nobody really needs to eat food they don't like.
that said, wild caught white flaky fish is usually pretty "easy" to like....0 -
I am the same way...I do not like "fishy" or "lake water" tasty fish. I like whatever kind of fish they use for fish stick. I have eaten Gorton's Cajuned Blackened Fish Fillet and liked it but I think it is the same kind of fish used in fish sticks. It does not taste like fish.0

I don't like fish either unless it's cooked just right (if I can't taste the fishy-ness of the fish, then it's just right).
I have a good salmon recipe:
1 Tbsp each of chopped garlic, loosely packed brown sugar, dijon mustard, soy sauce, melted butter, olive oil and honey. Mix it all up and spread over the salmon 30 minutes before grilling it (or broiling). I usually make double the recipe for two pounds of salmon, spread half of the marinade over the salmon to marinate, and wait until half way through the grilling process before I add the rest of the marinade. It's the only way I'll eat salmon.0 -
Fresh salmon or trout with paprika and garlic sprinkled on top, wrapped in foil and cooked for 30 mins in oven.0
-
Smoked Salmon... Yummm0

Try different cooking methods, I like some fish steamed, other baked in the oven soaking in condensed milk, other pan-fried other broiled...
same with veggies etc you might try something prepared one way and decide you don't like it while it was that cooking method of that item you didn't like.
Try tons of spices, just open the cupboard and see what you've got, lemon juice and dill is a nice boost, chipotle really cranks up my salmon etc.0 -
If you are not a fan of the fish flavor I recommend buying pre-cut white talapia or a white cod!!! Season with garlic, oregano and cajun (if you like) Bake in oven at 350 til cooked thorughly and it will taste like a baked chicken breast!0
-
grill it up! catfish has a low smell to it and you can find in most stores.. my fav fish is sheepshead, redfish, flounder. i love that my husband is a fisherman!0
-
Dolphin, tilapia, shrimp, scallops...those are my favorites.
Not too fishy tasting and easy to cook a ton of different ways.0 -
I love fish and almost every day for dinner I cook a piece of salmon (Gordons) and cut it up into tiny pieces and mix it in a salad that has lettuce (of course), tomatoes, Parmesan cheese and a tiny bit of salad dressing. It's so filling and so tasty! I'm sure you could add mushrooms or onions any other veggies that you like. Basically mix your fish into a nice big fresh salad. It's yummy!0

Im obsessed with RedHot!!! I put it on everything it helps with bad tastes!!0

FYI Salmon has a pretty fishy taste to it. So you may want to try a white fish and work your way up!0

I HATE fishy fish. However, I can stomach tilapia and the white part of swordfish. We generally put a glaze on it and grill it, but sometimes the tilapia still gets that 'water' taste. I have basically given up and just eat shrimp and scallops--you can buy the big bags of scallops in the frozen section much cheaper than the seafood counter, just make sure you check the dates and thaw them correctly.0

I have family members who loathe fish who will happily scarf down baked panko-crusted halibut (you can also use cod; halibut is pricey, but soooo goooood). Rinse a halibut fillet, dip into egg white, then coat with a crust of panko, a little parmesan, some spices you like (I usually use pepper, garlic powder, a bit of thyme and sometimes a bit of oregano or basil.) I usually mist the breaded filet with a light spray of olive oil to add a wee bit of flavour and make it turn more brown when cooking. Bake in the oven following usual halibut cooking instructions. Serve with lemon, or ketchup, or homemade tarter sauce, etc. I'll often serve this with baked homemade hashbrowns or baked sweet potato "fries."
EDIT: Also, a light, spicy maple glaze on salmon is very flavourful. The glaze is made with maple syrup, black pepper, cayenne, and a bit of lemon juice -- I usually just randomly mix together amounts until it makes a glaze, and lightly brush that over salmon before baking it. Best on wild salmon, baked on a wooden plank. Mmmmmmm, salmon.0 -

I've really grown to like salmon, I wrap a fillet in a couple of sheets of filo pastry, put in a couple of slices of lemon and some dill inside, and bake for about 25-30 minutes on a medium heat. Its really fresh and filling. If you want to cut the calories down you can omit the filo, but it only adds about 100 to the dish, I normally have it with some steamed broccoli and brown rice0

I cant be any help at all but I've certainly tried to eat fish for the health nature of fish. But the only way I can eat it is very thin fiets fixed the old-fashioned way in cornmeal and fried. Not good for a healthy way to eat fish. I hate the smell of fish although I love everything else seafood wise. Good luck in your recovery and hope you can find some fish recipes to help you. I've given up on trying to eat it.0

Wow, I have never thought of wrapping it in phylo!!! That sounds good! (with a different fish) LOL0 -
Try the costco salmon patties, I cook them in the microwave with out any oil at all and they taste wonderful with some saute`ed veggies, low fat sour cream and home made salsa on top.0

Try marinating a white fish (like cod or tilapia) in a flavor you like.0

Tilapia is good. It's supposedly the chicken of fish. It pretty much picks up the taste of whatever you cook it with/in, and I know several professed fish-haters who really like it. I LOVE salmon - but that does have a stronger taste - when cooked well, it is very much like the consistency and texture of canned/pouch tuna - which, I also love. Of course, I recommend cooking tuna rare, but that is perhaps an acquired taste.
As someone said, fresh fish will not smell, so smell is a big indicator to stay away. But honestly, I purchase frozen filets from the market and even though it may smell a tad fishy when I thaw it to cook, I have never had any fish taste bad due to this.
You may not be a big fish eater, but consider these two things - 1. if you try one type and don't like it, try it a second time before saying you don't like it. It could just be how it was cooked or what it was cooked with - as I said, fish like tilapia pick up those other tastes wonderfully. And 2. Be sure to try many different types of fish as they all have such a distinct taste. You may only find one you like (doubtful, but possible!) but if that one fish can reduce your risk of a second heart attack, then it's worth the research!!!
Good luck!0 -
 Tinned salmon mixed with mash potatoes and mixed herbs. If you make them in to rissols you can then brown them off under the grill its also a quick cheap eat! or if you want to go fresh salmon why not bake in tin foil then mix with pasta and add light phillidelphia cheese.0

I place salmon skin side down on a foil-lined baking sheet, sprinkle with lemon pepper (we like the Jamaica Me Crazy lemon pepper), then place thin slices of orange and lemon on top. Baking times vary based on the thickness of the cut - I actually prefer my salmon a little on the dry side so I back longer. When I take it out I squeeze lots of fresh lemon juice over them to soak in while they rest for about 5 minutes. Citrus really makes seafood taste good (and I used to hate seafood).
Good luck with the recipes!0
