I agree with the carb/protien thing. for me, even if I stay within my calories, if I eat too many carbs and not enough protein I CANNOT lose weight! It drives me crazy. Don't change the oatmeal you're having for breakfast- that is a great source of good carbs and protein. MFP I think suggests WAY too high of carbs. You should be shooting for at MOST 50% carbs in the day and at LEAST 30% protein. Maybe try a protein shake? EAS has a good whey protein you can mix. Throw that in a blender with some water or almond milk, or even fat free regular milk, add in some frozen strawberries and/or blueberries and YUM! That could be your after-dinner snack. If you still feel hungry after that, you can remind yourself you just fed your body lots of really good protein and some healthy carbs - it can't be hungry. Chew gum - that really helps me when i feel like I'm starving! You really aren't doing terribly by the way... you're doing well - I binge at night too - that's my problem. But since I've been getting up super early to exercise, I have to go to bed earlier, so less time to want to binge! I haven't binged at all on the nights i'm in bed by 9 but if I stay up till 11 or 12, all bets are off. You could also be hungry in the evening because your body is tired, so it's saying 'if you're going to keep me up, then you've got to feed me to keep my energy up!' I agree w/ the brown rice suggestion - not with the potatos suggestion. potatos are a not-good carb. Try to avoid the 'fiberone' and the like bars - they look all good and healthy but they are LOADED with added sugar and carbs. Even with the special k and slimfast bars. And slimfast shakes for that matter. If you do decide to use protein shakes look for a good protein powder w/o a bunch of added sugar - the kind that is mainly just protein.

Good luck to you!! Good for you for even logging your binges!!

The first thing I would try is upping your water intake. The brain interprets the signal for being hungry and trusty the same way.

@Diana..I think I need to cut peanut butter all together. I'm pretty sure it is a trigger food for me! Thanks for the suggestions.

I love peanut butter too much to cut it out. And it's so high in protein. Just try the kind with no sugar. Maybe it won't be a trigger like the other kind.

If you work out at night/afternoon you need to add the starch to your dinner or carbs. Everyone of you keeps forgetting this. If you work out in the morning than your breakfast needs to be bigger. It depends when you work out!!! Everyone who says don't add starch is COMPLETELY wrong. I've lost 68lbs in total doing what I do for past 4yrs, and I work out in the afternoon and I add starch to my dinner. So maybe you should get all the facts before critising people

We are not criticizing you we just have a different opinion. And maybe it worked for you. That's great! But this advise about not eating carbs like potatoes, pasta and rice in the evening, if you are trying to loose weight, is advise I got from the trainer Jillian Michaels from the Biggest Looser. I really don't think she is wrong.

I may be new to this and obviously I need help too. I do know the following though. Plenty of fiber, LOTS of water, good protien, and, lower starches. My doctor reminds me of one thing though, give your body at least four hours to digest before going to bed. That will help your body keep from retraining as many calories. Also, it keeps you from having problems with reflux. Keep up the good work!

So, how do I add protein without adding sodium??

Add a protein shake. Make sure to buy a good protein powder - I use pure whey protein with nothing else added to it - GNC has a good brand.

If your looking at some good eating plans - you might research the Jay Robb Fat Burning Diet. I was a heavy carb person - had to have my potatos and my fruit. Every diet plan I tried told me I couldn't have them so I would fail almost immediately. Jay Robb gives them to you - but it is on a high carb one day - low carb the next day. Plus he's advocates real foods, I cut out all my processed foods and could not believe what a difference it made. As long as I could have my fruit and my baked potatoe every other day - I could stay on track - lol. Also I went to natural Peanut Butter because I love PB too - I lost and felt really good while staying on track.

Now - I'm trying to get back on track after being off of it for 1 1/2 but all in all it is a good healthy eating lifestyle.

I eat Skippy All Natural peanut butter. 3 grams of sugar per tablespoon. Do you mean to tell me there is a peanut butter out there with less sugar??? What do you eat?? I do not like imitation or fake sugars, so if the no sugar added stuff has Splenda or the like in it, I won't eat it. Hahaha...I'm a little passionate about the sugar subs!

I usually get the generic natural peanut butter. The only thing in it is peanuts and salt. No added anything. You do have to stir it though. I love it! No artificial sweeteners for me either.

Oh, I forgot to go back and check this one. I'm sorry. Ways that I add protein...let's see...hard boiled eggs are 70 calories, my husband takes the yolk out but I don't. Protein bars I like: Zone cashew and pretzel is my current favorite, love the zone strawberry and yogurt, target actually has a good line of protein bars in their brand. If you have a Wegmans grocery store, I get their brand of whey protein and have that with milk (or with water if my calories are getting close). I don't know what the "rules" are for stuff and people are probably right so I don't mind being corrected...I just know what's been working for me. I do better when I don't have as many carbs in the evening. I think my diary is open so take a look if you'd like.
