When at the gym working out... What measurement do you base your work outs on? Do you stay until you have worked out for X amount of time? burned X amount of calories? or went X amount of miles?

For me, I always set a minimum time limit that I will stay on a machine or at the gym... But I'm I have the time to stay a little longer and am not exhausted then I go ahead and either stay on until I've reached a certain calorie amount burned if I haven't already, Generally I don't care as much about distance unless I'm pretty close to the next mile or something.

I train on the treadmill indoors. I set out to do a session on there for one hour.

If, halfway through the session, I feel really crappy or "strange" I will cut the running down and just walk to the one hour mark.
  • I don't measure them, really. I usually have a muscle group to train going in (yesterday afternoon it was chest and triceps) and work that one out until I'm exhausted. As for cardio, I don't like doing that in the gym so much, though I will use the cardio machines for a little while. I'd rather run on the road. For that, I use a GPS watch and measure my distance and time.

You guys are more dedicated than me :) I can stay on the elliptical all day, but I run for just a 1/4 of a mile and I'm wiped out, lol
