need advice-hurt my back

This past Saturday I hurt my back. I'm not sure what actually caused it, but my upper back, neck & shoulder area are sore. If I move a certain way I get shooting pain.
My hubbs says I should cool it on working out until it's feeling better. I kind of agree but i'm worried that I won't get back into working out if I take a break for more than a day. What would you all do?

If you don't know what it's from and you haven't experienced it before, I'd definitely take a day off or two.0

If you work out while you are hurt you will likely make things way worse! I have a history of back problems and from my experience you need to rest! I alternate heat and ice and rest...rest...and rest!
I also see a chiropractor to speed the healing if i am really hurting.0 -
Agree, agree, agree. You must not work out while you have an acute injury. Ice the area. Take Ibuprofen if it is not contraindicated because of bleeding problems, other med interactions, kidney problems and rest until the pain subsides. If it does not subside may need an xray.0

If it's hurting and you don't want it to be broken or have a REALLY long time without working out I'd chill for a couple days. If it is hurting after a couple days I'd go see a Dr.
Your body is telling you, hey lay off me for a bit, I'm hurting.. If you keep pushing it, you might have an even longer recovery time!0 -
You'll need a brick, and a hammer. Put your finger on the brick then wack it with the hammer.
Trust me... after that, you won't notice the back pain at all. We did this back in 'Nam all the time. Usually to other people.0 -
Update: I have taken it easy and laid off my workout and my back is feeling much better. Still a little sore but I think Ill be all better by this weekend! Thanks everyone!0
