In the blue corner we've got the Paleo diet, focused on eating the way our ancestors may have done - lean grass-fed meats, fish, vegetables, fruits, roots, eggs, seeds and nuts. Low on refined carbohydrates and processed oils...

In the red corner, the Mediterranean diet - high in olive oil, unrefined cereal, fruits, veggies; moderate consumption of wine and fish, and low on dairy and meat...

Ding ding!

Why limit yourself with either diet and instead eat mostly nutrient dense whole foods from both groups?

They're both good. Why not combine them, and then you can eat EVERYTHING! Yay!

I agree with you, just interested to see what pros and cons people threw in.

Pros: some people seem to do better with arbitrary rules and restrictions

Cons: they have arbitrary rules and restrictions

Sensible diet and exercise jumps in the ring to KO them both.

For me, it's Paleo. Since I cut out grains, I've felt so much better. I haven't been hungry and I haven't been craving sweet junk, either. My energy has come back and I've been losing weight, which is motivating to keep eating all the yummy healthy stuff I've been eating. It seems like I have a lot less to log since I'm not eating as much as I used to.
  • my vote is on low grains. I am gluten, dairy, & egg free. makes it difficult to follow a specific diet. I am opting for more nutritious foods & low sugars & low processed food. however I will say that complete unrefined rices & a few other traditional grains are chock full of nutrition & much easier to digest. Healthy fats are vital to a healthy brain & well being. I cook with coconut milk instead of dairy (yummy). Check out westonaprice.org! Good luck :-)
  • I do get it......but...........those Paleo.....yes...the originals...they did not live so long!. I did read about the tribe they studied to derive the diet's value...:)

I remember 1 study showing the paleo diet had better glucose control and better lipid markers, not that that makes much difference but the paleo diet hasn't had many long terms studies done, and probably won't. Either diet would be a vast improvement over the SAD.

Could combine the Mediterranean Diet w/ Intermittent Fasting, and get the same results.

Just eat the food and enjoy.

Yes, the paleolithic humans didn't live long, but the things they died of were not the same things we're dying of. They died from being eaten by predators or from falling and breaking their leg, or from a basic infection or cold, or from starvation, exposure, etc. They weren't dying from lifestyle diseases like we are, because their lifestyle was better.

Neither diet is better then the other...
