Discouraged

Been working out for 4 weeks and on a 1200 calorie a day health plan. I work out 6 days a week, 3 days cardio, 1 day cardio/strength mix and 2 days strength training. I have only lost 2.4 pounds! Now before I hear that muscle weighs more than fat, I know this. I also know that I look different and I am seeing the flabbiness tone up. I just want to see that AND the number on the scale go down. I am 36 and it is hard :-(

Sounds like you need to eat more..
and muscle doesnt weigh more than fat :laugh:0 -
Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat sweetheart. One pound of muscle weighs the same as one pound of fat. It just takes up less space because it is more dense :flowerforyou: Just keep at it. Your body is still adjusting to so much new stress and change. It will catch up sooner of later0

Those links above are really good.
This is going to sound like obvious advice - but if it's not working, try something new. People will ask if you're eating your exercise calories. If you aren't - try eating them, and if you are - try not eating all of them. People will tell you to make sure to vary your foods. They'll also ask about drinking more water.
Search the forums - there's no one plan for everyone, but if it's not working, change it up!0 -
I'm feeling the same say, but keep going. Add me as a friend and we can motivate each other!0

Remember to eat back at least half of your exercise calories and drink plenty of water.
I too was discouraged by the first month of my journey, then I spent about 4 weeks loosing half a pound a week. Then I uped my water intake and also fruits and vegies. I get 1200 calories plus half my exercise calories a day. I am loosing about a pound a week now and it feels great. My biggest frustration right now is that the inches havent changed one bit from day one. GRRR...
I wish you all the best, and pray that you don't give up.0 -
I am the same way.... but I haven't lost an ounce!!! Staying under calorie and burning 300 to 500 calories a day. Making sure I am drinking water. Cut out alchohol.... I think the 36 age tells it... Our bodies are holding onto fat or something. Guess I will look at some of those websites too. I am thinking I am not eating the right combo of foods or SOMETHING!! befriend me... tammcmullen0

MEASURE, MEASURE, MEASURE! i take my measurements every week, i do arm, chest, thinnest and thickest part of my waist, hips, thigh and calf, it is really eye opening! then i add them all up so i can see how much i drop each week. I feel your pain though, i actually managed to gain 15 lbs and lose 16 inches at the same time, it was crazy! I pack muscle on very easily0

Keep at it, over time it will all make a difference, if you keep going it will all come off. It's not a race, enjoy the journey, if it feels like a chore you aren't going to be able to maintain it. Making smaller gradual changes over time where it feels like a natural transition can be a good way to go, thats what has worked for me (until I get obsessed and then try the quick fixes to get the result, this is what always throws me off track and then have to regain the mindset, so I am hoping to curb that obsession this time!). A loss is a loss, better than a gain or staying the same. Don't be discouraged, you keep doing the right things and you will look back and realise how far you have actually come! Take some pics and even compare to some older ones and as you say if you are noticing changes, photos are brutally honest and you will see how on track you are! Good luck and keep up the great work!0

Get measuring!!! Okay so its not the scales but seeing a number go down will still help I've lost more cm's than lb's x0

You'll have to try different things, and do what works for you. For example: I've been trying to eat back my exercise calories for the last two weeks. Results: have only lost 0.5 lbs in those two weeks. So now, I know this is not for me. So I'll try to eat back only half of it for the next two weeks, and we'll see. What do I do when the scale doesn't go down? I continue to log everything to make sure I don't go over my calorie goal, exercise everyday and forget about the scale for the next two weeks, and only concentrate on my measurements. I always thought that a scale is a two sided tool... When it goes down, it's fabulous, but when it doesn't, it's devastation, and that's true for everybody.
Measurements, measurements, measurements.
Don't give up, :flowerforyou: you've been doing great !0 -
I am also looking for friends to help keep my on my path to better health! Any and all encouragement is appreciated.0
