Plantar Fibroma - Recommendations on Stability / support sho

Hi everyone!

A couple of years ago I did some damage to the arch of my foot from unknowingly doing too much elliptical and stairmaster in weak/unsupportive shoes and tore the muscle tissue on the arch of my left foot. It formed a pea-sized knot which has slowly depleted over time. The podiatrist I saw about this told me I should be wearing shoes with a lot of torsional rigidity and shoes that don’t really bend if you try to fold them in half.

It has been fine until I’ve begun working out 4-5 sometimes 6 days a week, and now my arches are hurting. I want to avoid further damage and certainly don’t want another fibroma, so if anyone has had a similar issue and can suggest shoe brands/makes that have worked for them I’d appreciate it.

p.s. the podiatrist also told me to not even bother with orthotics or inserts, since I’m sure some people will recommend that. I’ve never tried them, so I can’t say either way, but I have listened to him on that note thus far.

I have flat feet and have had chronic plantar fasciitis all my life.

I just recently got into jogging and am start C25K in February for my first 5K in April.

I went to a New Balance store and had my feet measured and they confirmed the flat arch =.
New balance makes shoes for people who over-pronate their feet (what flat arches cause) via two lines of shoes.
I ended up going with the "stability" line with the model 940's. They have an inner roll bar that keeps you straight and prevents roll.

They also had some inserts which have arch supports + metatarsal support. The metatarsal support provides the long needed support I've needed right in the center of my plantar fasciitis area. I've been walking 3-5 days a week for almost 2 weeks with these shoes doing a 15% incline @ 3.5mph and have yet to have a flair of foot pain other than that of building muscle. Its been soooo great.

Go to a sports shoes store. They can help. I like the reebok rezigs. They have very good arch support and helped me when I was recovering from planter facitis/collasping arches. I still wear them to the gym. If not the rezigs try another reebok shoe. You can also have your doctor recommend a shoe. Mine rec'd the reeboks.
