I started on 3rd shift this week. I'm having problems sleeping through the day. So far, I've been adveraging about 3.5hr of sleep a day...but my body still tired, but I'm unable to go to sleep. What are some tricks that I can use to get more sleep? and I'm not willing to do any drugs.

I've worked graveyard for nearly four years.

Cut out caffeine a few hours before you get off.
Invest in some room darkening shades and a sleep mask.
Have a hot cup of tea when you are ready to settle in, brush your teeth and change into comfy clothes. Develop a routine.

Maybe put on a fan, sound machine, or instrumental music to relax you.

Lavender is known to relax and help you rest.

^ This is perfect advice. I worked graveyard for two years and many of these are exactly what I used to do.

Milk, turkey...have tryptophan which can induce sleep.

I've always had trouble sleeping and years ago, I heard this strange trick. Oddly, it worked for awhile. When you're laying in bed, start at your toes and work to the top by tensing every muscle in your body. Really focus on tensing each one. Once every part of you is tensed, hold for as long as you can, then let go. Do that a few times and it will wear you out.

    Good luck!
