What is your personal goal. If it is weight loss do you amp up on cardio and not so much on the resistant training?
Are you obssesed with the scale or what is in the mirror?
If it is muscle when did that become your fixation? (at goal weight or straight from beginning?)

Both. I'm trying to lose ~6lbs of fat and gain 2lbs of muscle. I have a goal weight and body fat %.

I pay attention to the scale, the mirror, how my clothes fit and how my body feels.

How does one accomplish both muscle gain and fat loss?
I am hearing these 2 goals work against each other, and yet some people seem to get results.

From what I understand (could be wrong though) you can't do both at the same time. Losing weight requires a calorie deficit while building muscle requires a calorie surplus.

I did a modest bulk cycle to try to put on a little muscle, and now I'm slowly starting to lose again to hopefully get down to target weight. We'll see what my BF% ends up being.

I'm working to change the shape of my body. If it wants to eat fat, eat muscle, build muscle-whatever-it's gonna do what it's gonna do. I'm lifting heavy weights 2-3x a week, doing HIIT 1-2x a week, and eating healthier at a slight calorie deficit. So long as I continue seeing changes every 2 weeks in the pictures I take, I'll be happy. My ultimate goals are to do a 1/2 marathon in September and be able to do a pull up on my own by the end of the year. I know most people will see these in great conflict with each other, but I'm focused on getting STRONGER right now. I'll start doing more running in a few months when my race gets closer, but I'll still continue to do weight training as well. It remains to be seen if I'm sabotaging each goal or not.

I would like to lose some weight and then tone myself up. I'm at the highest weight I've ever been and SO over it. I'm sick and tired of just feeling gross. Plus when I don't eat right, I always feel it the next day with a stomach-ache and sometimes worse.

Since counting calories, I've lost 8 lbs. I've noticed a change all over in my body and I feel so much better. I'm cooking healthier meals. Overall, it feels darn good.

But this is just the beginning. My goal weight is 125-130 lbs. So I have a good 20-25 lbs to go.

I do sort of obsess over the scale and weigh myself every day. But I only track my weight on Friday's. I know my weight will fluctuate and go up and down here and there so I don't stress over it too much. I just recently started measuring myself so we'll see how that works out. I just want to fit in my clothes better and not feel disgusting in everything I wear. :)

If you are very new to weight training you see both happening at once, which I am loving atm but in general it is a process of bulking then cutting :)

I want the strength, and nothing but the strength. Losing weight is easy, its gaining lean body mass that is hard.
