Has anyone used Acai as a weight loss tool? I keep reading that it is wonderful for cleansing out toxins and burning fat. Anyone know from experience?

beware of marketing scams for this diet aide:

I drink acai berry flavored tea... but only because it has no sugar and still tastes good... not because I thought it would help me lose weight (well at least not anymore then drinking water would)0

I asked this a few weeks ago on my profile and friends said that they were on the toilet the whole time and it was not worth the money! I haven't personally tried it but it doesn't sound like its worth it at all.0

I tried the Acai Berry and found no "different" results.0

I use the Agro Labs Acia cleanse every morning and I also use a cleansing Acia pill product every 6 mos.
I LOVE IT!
The secret is to get the real stuff, which costs more but totally worth it. You must get the product with real juice and the pulp to get the desired results.
The hype is real, but you do have to be weary about the fake product, or the product with a low % that they are trying to pass off as the real thing.
I took my mom a bottle and she asked me to bring her 5 bottles the next time I came to see her, thats how well it works.0 -
I tried the Acai Juice from walmart. It worked really great and you literally feel your stomach cleansing. Drink it with water also. You should find it in the Juice section with the orange juices.0

The actual berries are great - filled with nutritious antioxidants.
I highly recommend them as a great source for what your body needs.
But.....
Don't get sucked into joining anybody's club, "business opportunity" or other such scam where Acai is touted to be some kind of miracle berry that will make all our dreams come true.
It's just a berry - a wonderful berry, but just a berry.0 -
I tried the pills with the colon cleanse, didn't have any effect that I noticed.0

Thanks! I believe my husband bought some acai supplements at wal mart a while back which is what I was referring to....but maybe I will try them for a while and see what happens0
-
I like it, but you have to take it in moderation. I don't take 4 pills a day. I just take one pill at night. It helps my tummy stay regular and it didn't make mine hurt. I do a rotation of 30 days on and 30 days off. If you have tummy issues, it helps. But, I have heard of people having difficulties with it. I was lucky and it works for me.0
-
No No I didn't plan to join any club or anything of the sort.....planned to buy them from wal mart or whatever0

Well, I honestly do not know what kind of product you can get at wallmart, but you have nothing to lose but fecal matter. Just be sure and wait and try it when you are not going anywhere the next morning. You do not know how it will effect you. When I start my 10 cleanse every 6 mos, I start on Friday night because I am going to go to the bathroom 3 or 4 times on Saturday. YAY, it is awesome. haha0
-
For the people saying it "works".....works for what?0

For those of you that poop on a regular basis, well good for you. I do not..................
I crack up at people giving their "opinions" around here. I think it is important that we share our experiences, that is all that really matter.0 -

The body does an excellent job of "cleansing" itself. Just treat it right and it will treat you right. There is no "cleanse" as effective as simply eating well.
"The best way to 'detox' the body is simply to let your body do its job. Unless you have a medical problem, your body takes care of itself quite nicely, experts say.
"The liver and kidneys are nature's best-kept secret, because they are the weapons to eliminate toxins from your body," says Gerbstadt. "If you are concerned about certain substances in your diet, it is easier and safer to simply eliminate [those substances] rather than engage in unhealthy detox plans."

According to Chau Che MD, with New York University:
"Despite evidence to the contrary, the idea that colon cleansing is therapeutic by removing impurities, lives on. However, these claims largely fail to consider normal physiology. The digestive tract has inherent properties that work to clean our colon. After food ingestion, the small intestine absorbs nutrients and contracts to move indigestible residue into the colon. The colon continues the digestive process by absorbing and secreting electrolytes and fluids while its resident bacteria ferments the undigested food products. These are just some of the many mechanisms in which the digestive tract works in order to ensure that the colon does not become encrusted with fecal matter as some products claim. The black, rubbery material passed on a colon cleanse is actually a byproduct from the supplements and fiber in the colon cleansing product as opposed to old fecal material, in which consumers are led to believe."

I've been taking Acai supplements for about 3 weeks now and I've found my energy levels have increased. As for pooping- I haven't noticed any increase in my toilet activity. I did not start taking it for weight loss, I haven't lost any considerable amounts of weight since being on it.0

I did not ask as far as making myself poop..geez I have read that it helps cleanse your system and burn fat...I eat healthy and exercise everyday so wherever the idea came from that I asked for laxative purposes is ridiculous.0

I tried Acai Cofffee. Dropped alot of weight in the process but I had terrible side effects was moody, had little sleep, constipated and my blood pressure shot up dangerously. Next thing I got an email to say they have banned a sustance that was found in it so they put me on another acai coffee and I whacked on weight.....
Im here to do this the proper way and taking responsibility for what goes in my gob. Thanks MFP for giving me this amazing tool.0 -
As a dietitian I have to warn you-lots of companies and products go for the "quick weight loss" scheme. Even if it did somehow result in weight loss-and usually these kinds of products do not-it will not likely be long-term/sustainable.
Eating a healthy diet and working out is the best way to stay healthy and fit.0 -
on CNN todfay they said the Feds arrested marketers of this stuff for false advertising or something...I only caught the soundbite0

HEY, No Fair. Using facts is just SO wrong in an online argument. Next thing you're going to tell me is that candle-ing doesn't really help clean my ears......0
