Gym time - Two-a-days

Are two-a-days safe?
Say one at 5am and one at 6pm, hour long workouts, only 2 days a week, mainly cardio, 600+ calorie burn at each session. I know a bunch of people at the gym who do this so I have always thought it was ok. But I was recently informed that it was not okay and that I needed to stop. (This advice was not from a doctor)
Thoughts, advice, answers?

A girl I work with goes to the gym twice a day, every day. I don't know how long for, or how much she burns though.0

I do two a days. I do my Insanity work out (usually between 40-45 min of intense cardio) at 6 am; then at night hubby and I do P90X strength training/abs (that usually comes out to 75 min for that work out). I like doing these videos at home b/c there is not a lot of stand around and wasting time.
The 2 a days are 5 days a week; then Saturday I do a long run and Sunday is just one Insanity work out in the morning. I've been doing it for almost 30 days now and lost 8 lbs and 3 sizes. I did the same sort of thing a year and a half ago and lost 27 lbs and went from a 10 to a size (4-6), so it worked for me.0 -
I mean I don't feel overly tired or anything and I don't feel like my body is fighting it. So I still think it's ok. But I wanted to get a few opinions before writing off the warning that was given to me.0

Just listen to your body. If you are feeling too tired, sore, etc, remember that it is OK to cut back or skip a few days until you feel better. As long as you are listening to your body, then you should be fine. If you begin to have any concerns, see a doctor ASAP.0

I used to do two exercise classes back to back, but now I separate them lunchtime and evening so I can get maximum results in both classes, especially weight training, which was suffering if I had to take it after cardio because of my gym's timetable. I haven't done two periods of cardio am and pm, but I would like to try it and see how it works out. Like others have said, just listen to your body - it will soon tell you if you are overdoing it, believe me0

I did this for the spring last year, to lose weight for my anniversary. I made my goal weight but when I stopped working out so much I gained it all back and more. I also just kind of stopped doing all of it-I got so burned out from going low-cal and working out constantly that I just couldn't keep it up. I'm trying to do it slowly this time so that I can keep up with it...0

I used to work out twice a day on weight days and once a day on cardio days. I would do cardio in the morning and then weights in the afternoon.
But that was when I was in school and had no morning classes. Now I can't get my butt up early enough :blushing:0 -
I hope so that's what I am starting to do this week!0

I do two a days at least 3 days a week and 2x a week I do 3 a days....5am...around 11am and again at 730pm.....each for about 75 minutes to 90 minutes.
There is no problem with working out as much as you want, if your body will let you. I do these some days on only 1200 calories and feel fine, so just be smart, dont work the same body part each time, unless its cardio, and you should be ok.0 -
I do it several times a week. Sometimes I start to feel like I'm dragging, so I'll take a rest day, but mostly I feel good. I'd say as long as you're not starving yourself, and you feel good, go for it.0

I do HIT 3 days a week then the other two days I go walking, lift weights, or do boxing. Sometimes I work out 7 days a week. If I can I do fit in more than one work out not all time but I do try to do it.0

I specifically asked my doctor if this was ok- I was doing a 30 min run in the morning (say around 10am) and doing aerobics or calisthenics in the evening around 5:30pm. My doctor told me this was fine.
I did eventually stop though, just because it was a hassle to bring two workout outfits to work (I used the gym in my office building and then headed straight to my membership gym from work).
I've also had a guy tell me that working out more than 3 days a week was unhealthy so....O_o Take people's advice with a grain of salt. Just ask your doctor if you're worried about it and most of all, like everyone is saying, just listen to your body.0 -
I did 2 a days for three months while I was training for my marathon. I did P90X in the morning and ran after work. I did long runs on Fri (8+ miles), which was my Yoga day for P90X. It worked well for me. I took about a 3 week break and cut back to only running after I finished P90X. Now that my marathon is over, I'm back to 2 a days again. I think that as long as you are fuleing your body with good food and enough food then you will be fine. Your body will let you know when it's tired and needs a break, mine did!0
