So I've just started my diet and shopped for low cal/no fat items. I was eating my Dannon Light & Fit - cherry yogurt and read the ingredients. To my shock there is aspartame AND sucralose in it, both of which I have heard and read are harmful for you. So which is more harmful?? The fat and calories or the chemicals? Would it be better just to eat low fat rather than nonfat?? If anyone has any advice or info on this matter I would appreciate it. :)

aspartame and sucralose are not used to replace fat, they are used to replace sugar. Sugar is also not good for you. Everyone has an opinion on this one.
  • I believe the more natural the better. I don't like all those harmful chemicals:sick:

Yes, I know and there's like yellow dye #2 and all sorts of stuff in diet foods that are bad and I believe ultimately stall weight loss.:grumble: I'm glad that you posted this. I use raw sugar or STEVIA to sweeten the stuff.

I'm a crazy person. I make my own yogurt for my son and I. It's actually cheaper and it's so much better, too.

Good luck on your weight loss...congrats so far!

IMHO i think the closer to nature it is the easier it is for your body to use it... your body knows how to break down sugar much more efficiently than the chemicals. For me, I just use regular foods, and watch amounts, portions, etc, rather than eating chemicals so that I can eat more. In the end, though, I think it comes down to what YOU are comfortable with.

You might want to read this. You need fat to burn fat ... not much of it ... but you do need some. Good luck on the journey. Also, make sure you look up scientific articles on what's bad for you vs. what's good for you. A lot of things go around and they arent true. I don't know about those but just keep that in mind.

kerri is right - it's used to replace sugar - but usually when you remove fat you lose some of the texture and taste that fat is known for - so often sugar or substitutes...and even salt...are added back to make it more palatable.

Try to go more natural plain lowfat yogurt - and add in fruit if you like the flavor.

I use Dannon Plain Nonfat yogurt and it doesn't have all those chemicals in it. Then if I have a sweet tooth I add whatever I want to it. NesQuick for a chocolate fix or strawberries. You might want to try that.:flowerforyou:
