Feeling.....troubled lol

OK.

I was doing great 2 weeks ago, it was my first week on the site and id lost 4 pounds. I did exercise about 4 times that week, some days 20ish minutes on the indoor bike, others my aerobics dvd. The next week i had takeout 3 of the nights, mostly due to the fact that family had brought it for myself and hubby, we had a few financial dificulties.
I know that wasnt good, i knew i was going to gain weight but starting this week im up 5-6 pounds. Iv been trying to eat enough that i dont go below the 1200, especialy with exercise. So far i have done 2 days of 30mins on the indoor bike.

I just feel like it seems extremly hard at the moment. I had to stop cutting out foods like pasta because some days i need the calories if i want to exercise, but at the same time i feel like im doing bad. I have possibly not explained this very well, but i just feel like im trying and getting nothing back. -.-

So, you had some rough days and didn't really stick with the plan. Does that mean you're completely derailed? No, it doesn't. It really does not mean anything at all. Just keep going.

The 4 lb you lost in your first week was likely water weight. The 5-6 lb you gained was likely water weight as well. I'm assuming the take out you got wasn't the healthiest stuff and had a lot of sodium causing you to retain fluids. It is extremely unlikely that you gained 5-6 lb in one week.

BTW, about take out food. It's pretty much the only thing I eat. I'm for the most part living without a kitchen. Just because you eat out, doesn't mean you can't eat something healthy.

I think an important think to remember is that you can still eat the things you like AND lose weight!

Last night we had fish and chips, purely because we had been careful with calories during the day and done 30DS when we got in to burn some too. A few days ago I had two rows of Dairy Milk because I had the calories to have it. I don't feel deprived and therefore I don't 'crave' things. My favourite food is pizza, so I went on the Dominos site two weeks ago and worked out exactly what I could have for my budget. I didn't have as much as I normally would, but I didn't feel like I was missing out and it was great knowing that I wasn't even cheating in order to have it!! :oD

The more you tell yourself there are things you 'can't have', the more difficult it becomes and the more you want it! I would start working backwards with your calories and work out how much you need for something you really want (when you have take away for example) and from there you'll know how many more you need to burn, or have left to use that day. It's not great to do all the time as you need to make sure you're getting lots of protein and vitamins..etc, but it doesn't hurt now and again :o)

Don't let it get you down, just start again!

I fill in my food diary a day before, as I plan what I'm going to eat- and then I try and stick to it / or at least know how many calories I have left / can play about with.

I might get a take away on Friday, but if I do I'm going to exercise really hard + cut back on the calories for the rest of my meals!
  • Thanks guys, i need to get into the state of mind where i can make mistakes or fall behind, but still know that i have to just keep trying!

I also dont beleive in not having this that i want, i just have to learn to have them in moderation. Im doing better with my calories and im much more active than i was, which is good at any rate. I think i just need to find the motivation to keep going untill i see results!

I know exactly what you mean about financial difficulties and I agree with elisabat...I could simply be the water/sodium thing. Sodium makes a big difference in my weight and I reduce it because of medical reasons. I think that you will be ok as long as you Keep-Moving-Forward!! Remember this is a journey not a sprint...there may be a few set backs and we cant control the # on the scale all of the time but we can decide to not let it defeat or discourage us. Since you are just starting out use this time to also pay attention to your body, what works and what doesnt. You CAN do this!
