I've been thinking about buying a bathing suit, but I have no idea what size I will be! How do you know? I think it would be the biggest motivation for me, but what if I never get to the size I bought?

I'm having the same problem. I wanted a winter coat (big sales right now), but if I get something that fits well now, it won't fit next year. And I have no idea what my final size will be. It's not worth it to me to buy in advance, at least not for full price. I'm going to look at resale shops for a coat. As for a bathing suit, I'm going to wait until it's warm and I'm hopefully at goal and then I'll grit my teeth and grumble about the price, but I know I'll get the best fitting choice.

I won't buy clothes until I get to the weight I want to be. This is my incentive. I wouldn't want to buy it for exactly the reason you mentioned. You won't know what size you are going to be.

I'm ridiculously fussy about how my clothes fit, and even moreso swimwear, so I'd never buy something without trying it on and examining it from all angles.

Even if something is the right size, it's no guarantee it's going to fit right. I can take 10 pairs of jeans into a dressing room in "my size" but only one might look right. Others might be too tight in the thighs, or too big in the waist, or smoosh my butt, or any other number of issues. Same goes for swimsuits. I had to try on quite a few before I found ones that were flattering. And a style that was flattering when I weighed 20# more might not be flattering at 20# less and my body proportions changed.

Set the money aside and buy it when you reach your goal. Even if you've been the weight you're targeting before it's hard to tell what size you'd be. If you need a visual motivator figure out a store you'd like to get it from and purchase a gift card (that doesn't expire) maybe?
