Looking at getting a fitbit... PLEASE tell me what you think... does it track calories burned for all exercises.. or just for the steps you take in a day????

It counts calories for steps you take and how generally active you are throughout the day.... but you have to input actual workouts.. I input them here on MFP and the two sites update one another.0

I am curious as well, from what I have seen it just tracks all the calories you burn in a day.0

Take a peek under "Groups", there's one for Fitbit users - LOTS of FAQs handled over there in the threads
It tracks the # of steps taken during the day, the # of floors of stairs in a day, and calories burned from those and your base metabolic rate. It also records the time stamps of each activity so you can see on a chart how your activity level changes through the day. I understand that it has the technology similar to the new Wii/Xbox Kinect gizmos to sense the difference.
It wouldn't be good at including calories burned from other activities like strength training and such... so I also have a Heart Rate Monitor that adds in calories burned based on height/weight/heart rate. I put the HRM data into MyFitnessPal like always (including the time started) -- then FitBit and MFP sync together. It's VERY COOL. Love it!0 -
I LOVE my fitbit. It not only tracks my steps and activity but also my sleep quality. What I love is that it tells me how many calories I really burn in a day if I'm not exercising. It motivates me to work out or get moving. I've lost 4lbs since getting it 2 weeks ago!0

I personally love my fitbit. It's very accurate when counting steps and staircases and general activity. You could technically use it for all exercises but would not be as accurate, so if you sync it to mfp it will take any exercises you log and add it to your fitbit account and adjust properly. The only MAJOR problem I have found is when driving. I drive 40 minutes to school each way and sometimes can log up to 1500 steps and a few stair cases. BUT the awesome thing about the fitbit website is if you record a start time and how long it took to do such a thing (driving, riding bus, ect) you can log it and it will zero out those steps for that time period and therefor staying true to the work you actually did.
I definitely say go for it. It's a great way too see how much you walk, you may be very surprised, I know I was. First day wearing it I did 28 flights of stairs just walking from class to class on campus. Lol.0 -
